Key players in the Springboks team, including defenders Eben Etzebeth, Wright, and Lud de Jager, are preparing to play their first match of the November series against Argentina next week.
Springboks captain Siya Kolisi, once again alongside Sacha Feinberg-Musengomozulu, Lud de Jager, and Eben Etzebeth, will return from injury as national coach Rassie Erasmus and his team travel to Argentina on Saturday for a friendly match against Los Pumas in Buenos Aires.
The coach has formed a squad of 26 players for this tour. The squad includes both athletes recovering from injuries and those who have had a lighter load in recent weeks. The team will travel to South America in two groups on Saturday.
Some players who participated in the first four matches of the season, such as Cheslin Kolbe, Damian Willemse, Jesse Kriel, and Juan Nortje, will gather at the team's training base in Johannesburg on Sunday to begin preparations for the 'Rugby's Greatest Rivalry' tour against New Zealand.
Erasmus noted that they tried to find the right balance between giving valuable experience to players returning from injuries and those who haven't had much game time in the last four matches, and managing the load of players who have played extensively this year.
He added that the players who recovered from injuries trained hard this week and are ready to play, so it will be beneficial for them to have a tough test match before the meeting with New Zealand. He also emphasized the importance of load management for consistently performing players like Ox (Nche) and Franco (Mostert), who are still on the road to recovery.
Erasmus warned that Argentina is a strong team, and they expect a serious challenge in Buenos Aires. He also noted that the Argentine national team is well-trained and was competitive in the World Cup, which will make this match a good test for the team.
Commenting on the training week that concluded on Thursday afternoon, Erasmus stated that the series of productive sessions went well, and all players understand the coach's expectations, recognizing the importance of developing the season.
The match is scheduled for 21:00 on Saturday, August 8th, and will be broadcast on SuperSport.
