Honor is preparing to introduce a new experiment in the world of smartphones—its first Robot Phone. The main feature of this device will be a camera that differs from standard fixed systems. It integrates a special robotic camera system capable of rotating independently, tracking the user, and providing movements comparable to professional cameras during video recording.
Launch Details and Concept
Honor plans to officially unveil this phone on August 12th in China. The company emphasizes that this is not just another smartphone, but the next stage in the development of mobile photography, which necessitated the name 'Robot Phone.'
Robotic Camera Functionality
The phone body features a unique camera module that extends when necessary and can rotate in various directions. This system is not limited to simple movement; it uses artificial intelligence to automatically track a person or object in front of the camera. If a person moves or records a video, the camera will automatically follow them, making the recording smoother and more cinematic.
Camera Technical Specifications
Honor confirmed that the Robot Phone will be equipped with a triple rear camera system. The main sensor will have a resolution of 200 megapixels, featuring a large 1/1.28-inch sensor and an f/1.6 aperture. Additionally, there is an ultra-wide-angle camera of 50 MP and a 200 MP periscope telephoto lens, allowing for high-quality shots of both high-resolution and distant objects.
Partnership and Videographer Capabilities
Given its focus on content creators, Honor has partnered with the renowned German film company ARRI, a manufacturer of professional cameras used in Hollywood films. Thanks to this collaboration, the Robot Phone will gain ARRI features, including Log-C3 color grading and other professional capabilities, allowing videos shot on the mobile device to look more natural and cinematic.
New Chip and Intelligent Features
The company also introduced its own image processing chip—the Yuguang H1. Honor claims that this chip will improve the processing of both photos and videos, ensuring higher quality shots in low light and reducing noise in videos. With AI, the camera will be able to process images faster. Other features include AI Object Tracking, Super Steady Video, and AI Spin Shot, which help keep the subject in frame when shooting in vlog mode or while moving, reducing the need to purchase separate stabilizers.
Flagship General Specifications
According to available information, besides the camera, the Robot Phone will be equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, a battery capacity of about 6000 mAh, 120W fast charging support, a 6.4-inch OLED display, and Android 16 operating system based on MagicOS. Honor aims to be the first company to make a physically moving robotic camera system accessible to a wide range of users. Although information on the release date in India is absent, the success of this technology may inspire other brands to develop similar systems.
