One such enterprise is the Muruntov mine, which is considered one of the pillars of the country's economy.

This mine, recognized as one of the world's largest open-pit mining sites, is undergoing an extensive modernization process. Through the rational use of geological reserves, expansion of production capacities, implementation of digital management systems, and investment in human capital, the mine demonstrates high efficiency at both republican and international levels.

According to the head of the Muruntov mine, Nuriddin Kamolov, the greatest wealth of the mine is its human capital. Currently, 3162 local specialists work here, covering 126 professions. The complexity of production processes requires high qualifications and modern knowledge from engineers and workers, so the system for training, retraining, and improving personnel qualifications is constantly being improved.
Mining Volume Planning
According to available data, 97.85 million cubic meters of ore mass were mined in 2024, while this figure is expected to reach 117.8 million cubic meters in 2025. The plan for 2026 is set at 200.75 million cubic meters. This demonstrates the implementation of a large-scale program aimed at nearly doubling production volume in a short period.
Drilling and Blasting Operations Development
The increase in extraction volumes is also taking drilling operations to a new level. In 2024, 2.8 million linear meters of work were performed on 27 drilling rigs; in 2025, this figure will increase to 3.72 million linear meters on 29 rigs. For 2026, 7.79 million linear meters of work are planned using 38 drilling rigs. This is the result of reforms aimed at improving working conditions and increasing the pay of highly qualified personnel, as well as increasing the demand for them.
Innovative methods are also being introduced in blasting operations. Considering the changing characteristics of rocks as the pit deepens, individual charge parameters are calculated for each borehole. As a result, if 66.6 million cubic meters were blasted in 2024 and 93.3 million cubic meters in 2025, the target for 2026 is set at 182.4 million cubic meters. The technology of individual charging contributes to reducing energy consumption, improving granulometric composition, and increasing extraction efficiency.
Technical Reequipment and Localization
Technical modernization is also continuing in the extraction and transportation processes. Currently, 37 powerful electric and 19 hydraulic excavators operate effectively at the mine. The repair system has been completely modernized, and the major overhaul period has been reduced from the previous 90 days to 20-25 days. Importantly, equipment repair is carried out directly at the mine, significantly reducing production downtime. Furthermore, import substitution policy is strengthening through the localization of spare parts production in the workshops for equipment and mining machinery repair.
Digitalization and Logistics
Digitalization and technological modernization have also been reflected in the transport system. Thanks to the phased expansion of conveyor lines, the volume of ore transported in the first quarter of 2026 was 8.14 million cubic meters, which is 73% more than in the same period of 2025. The commissioning of a new 4-conveyor line further increases logistical efficiency and helps reduce transport costs.
Laboratory Control and Strategic Goals
Another important aspect of rational resource use in the mine is laboratory analysis. For this purpose, the Central Laboratory of Gamma Activation Analysis is equipped with modern technologies and has become one of the largest and most efficient laboratories in the world. This allows for assessing gold content in ore with high accuracy and planning production processes on a scientific basis.
A goal was set by the President to significantly increase the volume of precious metal extraction by 2030. When implementing these strategic goals at the Muruntov mine, special attention is paid to innovative technologies, digital solutions, and rationalization proposals. It is predicted that rationalization proposals implemented in the first quarter of 2026 will bring an economic benefit of about 550 billion sums.
