The Children's Ombudsman Suraiyo Rakhmonova conducted an inspection of the temporary detention isolation unit at the Chirchik Internal Affairs Department, where minors are held. As a result of the monitoring check, serious shortcomings were found, including the absence of medications and medical personnel.
Inspection Findings on Detention Conditions
Representatives of the ombudsman institute assessed various aspects of the minors' detention, such as the condition of the cells, living conditions, nutrition, and general sanitary and hygienic standards, as well as the system of medical care. It was established that the building itself requires major repairs, and the conditions in the adolescent cells do not meet accepted standards.
Problems with Medical Care
During the inspection, violations in the field of medical provision were identified. Specifically, the isolation unit had a problem with the availability of necessary medicines, and there was no position for a medical worker.
Further Actions and Context
Based on the facts discovered, the Children's Ombudsman plans to submit an official response act to the higher authorized body demanding the elimination of all identified deficiencies. It is worth noting that previously, the Main Directorate of Penal Enforcement (GUIN) denied reports on social media about mass poisoning of inmates in the 'Tashturyma' pre-trial detention center.
