According to the forecasts of the meteorological service Uzhydromet, August 2026 in Uzbekistan will begin with hot and dry weather, after which temperatures will gradually decrease. The average monthly temperature is expected to be close to long-term averages, but precipitation levels will be at or above normal.
In the first days of August, specifically August 1–2, 2026, air temperatures across the country will reach from 38 to 41 degrees Celsius. In southern regions and desert areas, an increase up to 42–43 degrees is expected. Then, the temperature will drop by 3–5 degrees, remaining within 33–38 degrees in most regions, and reaching 40 degrees in some places.
By the end of August, cooler air may arrive, which could gradually lower the temperature to 25–30 degrees. Nighttime temperatures in the first half of the month are expected to fluctuate mainly between 24 and 27 degrees, and in the second half—between 17 and 22 degrees. By the end of August, minimum nighttime temperatures in some areas may drop to 12–15 degrees.
Uzhydromet notes that August is traditionally the driest month in Uzbekistan. Most plains experience light rain for an average of one to three days, with the monthly precipitation not exceeding 1–2 mm. In the Fergana Valley, precipitation reaches 3–5 mm. In southern regions and desert areas, rain does not occur every August.
Rainfall is more frequent in foothills and mountainous areas. The average monthly precipitation in some places is 12–15 mm, and in the mountains of the Fergana region and high-altitude areas of the Tashkent region, it can reach 20–22 mm. Although the forecasted total precipitation may be near or above normal, the seasonal norm for August remains very low, and short, mostly weak rains are possible in the second half of August.
Overall, August in Uzbekistan is usually slightly cooler than July, with average monthly temperatures being 1.5–2.5 degrees lower. In most territories, average maximum temperatures range from 35 to 37 degrees, reaching 38–40 degrees in the south and desert areas. Hot days with temperatures of 40 degrees or higher in August occur less frequently than in July; on average, there are one to three such days nationwide, whereas in the far south and desert areas, there can be four to eight. In the Samarkand region and the Fergana Valley, such heat periods occur significantly less often, approximately once every five to ten years.
The influx of cool air usually intensifies towards the end of August. In some years, this has led to a decrease in daytime temperatures across the country to 22–27 degrees. Uzhydromet also noted the impact of global warming on August temperatures: the average temperature has increased by 1.2–1.5 degrees compared to the baseline periods of 1961–1990 and 1991–2020.
Despite August being the driest month, heavy downpours have been recorded in Uzbekistan in individual years. For example, in late August 2020, central regions received 10 to 34 mm of precipitation in 24 hours. In Tashkent on August 26, 2020, 17 mm of rain fell against a monthly norm of only 2 mm, setting a record for single-day precipitation in August. In August 2023, after a prolonged dry and hot period, rain fell almost across the entire country from August 27 to August 31, 2023. In some places, the amount of precipitation over several hours significantly exceeded monthly norms. For instance, near the Sariosiyo weather station in the foothills of the Syrdarya region, 35 mm of rain fell in three hours and ten minutes against a monthly norm of 0.4 mm, and near the Kokand weather station in the Fergana region—35 mm in 20 minutes against a norm of 5 mm.
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a series of weather warnings due to low pressure affecting several provinces. These warnings include forecasts for heavy rain, flooding, and snow.
SAWS has declared a Level 6 warning for destructive rainfall that could lead to the inundation of roads, bridges, and settlements, as well as damage to infrastructure and property along the coast and adjacent inland areas between East London in the Eastern Cape and Cape Vidal in KwaZulu-Natal. Additionally, an Orange Level 5 warning has been issued for destructive snowfall in the extreme northeastern highlands of the Eastern Cape, which may cause transport disruptions, failures in essential services, and temporary isolation of some communities.
A Yellow Level 2 warning is also in effect for destructive snowfall in the northeastern highlands of the Eastern Cape and the Drakensberg region in KwaZulu-Natal. An additional Yellow Level 2 warning for destructive rainfall covers the southeastern parts of the Eastern Cape and eastern parts of KwaZulu-Natal, excluding the far northeast of the province, where localized flooding of roads, bridges, and settlements, as well as infrastructure damage, is possible.
The weather service reported that from Wednesday evening, very cold and humid conditions are expected in parts of the Eastern Cape, southern KwaZulu-Natal, southern Free State, and border areas with Lesotho. Light snow is forecast in these regions as the low pressure system moves in, with weather expected to improve from the west by Thursday.
Farmers have been advised to take preventive measures to minimize potential damage from adverse weather conditions. Other areas are expected to see variable cloudiness and cool or cold weather with isolated showers and rain in Gauteng. Mist is expected along the escarpment in Mpumalanga and Limpopo with cool conditions and scattered showers.
Free State is forecast to be cold with isolated or scattered rain and thunderstorms, with possible light snow along the border with Lesotho. The Northern Cape will be cold or cool, with very cold conditions in the southern sections and isolated or scattered rain in the southeast; light snow is also possible in the far southeast of the province.
The Western Cape is expected to have good or variable cloudiness and cool or warm weather, although some areas of the Central Karoo will be cold. Overall, the Eastern Cape is expected to have cloudy, cold, or very cold conditions, with widespread rain in the eastern half and snowfall in the mountainous areas. KwaZulu-Natal will remain cloudy and cold or cool with scattered rain and showers, and only isolated precipitation is expected in the far northeast.
SAWS also specified that there are currently no fire danger warnings in effect.

In the Bukhara and Navoi regions, the weather will be cloudy, with no precipitation forecast. The wind from the east will blow at a speed of 7-12 m/s. In some places, the wind speed may increase to 13-18 m/s combined with dust storms. Night temperatures will be 22-27 degrees, and daytime temperatures will be 37-42 degrees.
Variable cloudiness and no precipitation are expected in Tashkent, Samarkand, Jizzakh, and Syrdarya regions. The wind from the east will blow at a speed of 7-12 m/s. Night temperatures will be 20-25 degrees, and daytime temperatures will be 34-39 degrees.
