The Ministry of Commerce of China stated on Tuesday that Beijing welcomes the World Trade Organization (WTO) ruling, which established that Turkey's restrictive measures against electric and some other types of vehicles produced in China contradict global trade norms.
WTO Dispute Findings
Tuesday saw the release of the WTO panel report on the case initiated by China. This report supported China's claims and ruled that Turkey's actions violate WTO rules, an official ministry representative stated in response to media inquiries.
Nature of Turkish Restrictions
Since 2023, Turkey has introduced several restrictive measures against Chinese electric vehicles, hybrid cars, and other vehicles. These measures include additional tariffs and import licensing requirements. The official representative emphasized that such actions violate WTO rules concerning established tariffs, national treatment, and most-favored-nation status, seriously harming China's legitimate trade interests and bilateral economic and trade relations.
Calls for Cooperation and Readiness
According to the statement, China strongly urges Turkey to respect the WTO panel's decision, take concrete steps, and promptly eliminate non-compliant regulations. The official representative also noted that China firmly adheres to a strategy of mutually beneficial opening and strongly supports the multilateral trading system based on the WTO. Beijing is ready to cooperate with all parties to improve the quality and level of trade and investment interaction in the field of new energy vehicles and other areas, provided that multilateral trade rules are observed to achieve common development.
