An official representative of China's Ministry of Commerce stated on Tuesday that the recent initiation of the US Section 301 investigation targeting overcapacity is a typical act of unilateralism that seriously violates the international economic order.
China's Position on the Investigation
Lin Weilun, director of the Ministry of Commerce's policy research office, emphasized at a press conference that the United States has no right to arbitrarily define production capacities that merely exceed domestic demand as 'overcapacity' and apply such labeling at its discretion.
Demands to the US
He also noted that the US side does not have the authority to unilaterally determine the existence of 'overcapacity' among its trading partners through a Section 301 investigation or impose unilateral restrictive measures based on such a determination. China strongly urges the United States to correct its mistakes and return to the proper path of resolving disputes through consultation and dialogue.

China stated that it will closely monitor developments and reserves the right to take all necessary actions to firmly protect its legitimate rights and interests.
