Practical results of Tau's law
The practical application of Tau's law has yielded significant results. Over a period of more than six years, Huawei has developed and produced 381 chip models covering hundreds of industries. These models have passed the tape-out stage, meaning the silicon wafers are ready for production, not just PPT demonstration.
Future developments and goals
The upcoming Kirin chip, scheduled for release in autumn 2026, will utilize LogicFolding technology. This technology reduces the critical path length of a conductor through three-dimensional logic optimization instead of simply shrinking transistor sizes. The long-term goal is to achieve 1.4 nanometer process transistor density by 2031 through time-domain optimization and advanced packaging integration, enabling the performance of leading nodes without access to the most modern lithography equipment.
Expansion of product line
Huawei has demonstrated the recovery of its chip supply chain across all market segments, as Kirin chips now cover the entire price range—from budget to premium. Furthermore, the Mate 80 smartphone sold 7.76 million units in eight months, and the Pura 90s was launched globally on July 20th, supporting 5G NR on overseas platforms for the first time since 2020.
Innovations in design and systems
The Mate XT2 Ultimate Design, planned for September 2026, is expected to adopt a U-shaped folding mechanism, replacing the previously used Z-shaped design, indicating ongoing mechanical innovation in foldable form factors. Meanwhile, the Ascend AI business shows annual growth exceeding 90%, and the cloud business ranks among the top three after six years. Tau's law extends beyond chips, spreading to system optimization. Ren's communication principle is to only explain, never argue. Thus, Tau's law transforms Huawei from a process-limited company into a system architecture innovator.
