There are rumors that Samsung intends to continue its line of tri-fold smartphones in 2027. This development is reportedly underway, and the company has already initiated contact with component suppliers.
The new generation could feature a total of four foldable models, including a new TriFold, which would be launched simultaneously with the Galaxy Z Fold 9, Galaxy Z Fold 9 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip 9. These models would follow the announcement of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8.
The Galaxy Z TriFold was introduced as an experimental line at the end of 2025. It occupied a market niche previously dominated only by the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design, notable for having three internal screens. The device was equipped with top-tier specifications, such as the Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform for Galaxy chip, a 10-inch screen with up to 120Hz refresh rate, and a 5,600 mAh battery.
Due to its high cost, the TriFold was sold for US$ 2,899.99, while the Huawei competitor cost between R$ 32,999 and R$ 39,999 in Brazil. Despite the high price, limited demand in the United States was enough to sell out stock early this year.
In contrast to the news about the TriFold, there are less optimistic rumors regarding the Galaxy Z Flip. A Chinese expert, Ice Universe, suggests that the eighth generation of the foldable, recently presented at Galaxy Unpacked, might be the last. GSMArena points out that the constant increase in RAM prices and low competition in the sector could lead to the end of this line, which gained popularity for bringing the design of devices that open and close with full front screens, similar to the Motorola Razr line.
If the Galaxy Z Flip is not discontinued, Samsung plans to offer an even larger portfolio in 2027, featuring four foldables and four more devices from the Galaxy S series: Galaxy S27, S27 Plus, S27 Pro, and S27 Ultra.
Samsung has released new foldable smartphones, presenting not two, but three models: the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8, and Galaxy Z Flip8. The company stated that it developed these three devices targeting different types of users: some for intensive work, others for entertainment, and a third for style enthusiasts and compact design lovers.
Samsung's main focus this time is not only on hardware but also on artificial intelligence. The company claims that Galaxy AI has been individually adapted for each of the three models. On the large screens of the Fold8 and Fold8 Ultra, multitasking and AI features will operate more efficiently, while on the Flex Window of the Flip8, AI will display necessary information and shortcuts directly.
Samsung has also deeply integrated Gemini.
The Galaxy Z Fold8 is designed for users who read, watch videos, and play games on their phone extensively. According to the company, the new model is lighter, weighing only 201 grams. It is equipped with a 3nm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor and a 4,800mAh battery. The new screen aspect ratio is designed to make viewing messages, social media, and short videos convenient in folded state, while the unfolded screen provides a comfortable experience for gaming, watching movies, and reading e-books.
Samsung used a new flexible titanium construction in the Fold8, which, according to the company, made the phone thinner and more durable. This improves display longevity and reduces the visibility of creases compared to previous models. The screen offers a peak brightness of up to 3,000 nits, and the Vision Booster feature allows content to be easily viewed even in bright sunlight.
Regarding the camera, the Galaxy Z Fold8 is equipped with a dual 50MP + 50MP camera system. It supports dual recording, allowing video to be recorded simultaneously from the front and rear cameras. Additionally, the My FanCam feature automatically crops videos according to social media requirements by tracking one person.
The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is positioned as the most premium model in this series. It features a large 8-inch screen and a thickness of only 4.1mm when folded, which the company calls the thinnest Galaxy Z Fold to date (the previous Galaxy Fold 7 was 4.2mm). The main camera of the Fold8 Ultra has a resolution of 200MP with HDR support, and the new ultra-wide-angle lens is 50MP. Nightography technology has been updated to improve photo quality in low light.
For content creators, features such as 8K video recording, APV codec, and Cine LUT are provided, allowing professional videos to be created directly from the mobile phone. This smartphone is equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, a 5,000mAh battery, and 45W fast charging. Samsung notes that the new dual-channel charging system makes the process more stable and faster. Thanks to the new cooling system, the phone does not overheat even during long periods of intensive use.
The Galaxy Z Flip8 is intended for those who prefer a compact, lightweight, and stylish phone. It weighs only 180 grams and is 6.1mm thick. Samsung states that this is the thinnest and lightest foldable phone in the Flip lineup. The main feature of the Flip8 is the new FlexWindow screen, which allows users to launch apps, use AI functions, and view necessary information without opening the phone.
The model includes the Now Brief feature, which offers timely information and recommendations for next steps. With Gemini Intelligence, many tasks can be performed using only voice. The Flip8 is equipped with a 50-megapixel camera with Pro Visual Engine. Thanks to Flex Mode, photos and videos can be taken without holding the phone, and the Super Steady Video Recording feature makes videos more stable. FlipShot and Mirror View features simplify the selfie process.
Samsung has integrated AI throughout the system. The Now Brief feature provides information based on user habits, while Now Nudge suggests the next step during a conversation. For example, if a user discusses a meeting with a friend, the AI will automatically suggest opening the calendar, finding a location, or saving geolocation.
Gemini Intelligence now interacts with over 40 applications and services. In Gemini Notebook, you can store notes, photos, recordings, and files in one place, and the AI is capable of generating reports, summaries, audio reviews, and other documents based on this content.
In terms of privacy, Samsung has added several new features. In the new AI Assistant Activity Dashboard in One UI 9, users can see what tasks the AI performed for them. Furthermore, new privacy notifications will provide advance warnings about potential threats. The company guarantees user data security through technologies such as Knox, Personal Data Engine, KEEP, and Knox Vault.
Buyers of the new foldable devices will receive a six-month free trial of Google AI Pro, as well as 5TB of cloud storage. Smart Switch has been updated, allowing easy transfer of data from an iPhone to a Galaxy phone by scanning a QR code. Moreover, file sharing between Galaxy and iPhone devices will become easier thanks to Quick Share.
