The Kwela musician L'vovo Derrango openly shared the most difficult period of his life—a devastating and life-altering stroke that suddenly halted his career, livelihood, and world around him.
Fan Support Following Revelations
After L'vovo Derrango shared his very personal story of surviving a stroke in 2022 on Gagasi FM, fans began to offer him support. Thanks to a public fundraising initiative organized by Yenziwe Qiniso Ndimande, 237,701.45 rand has been raised for the Kwela star.
A Story of Struggle and Inspiration
L'vovo, whose real name is Thokozani Ndlovu, candidly recounted on Gagasi FM how he fell on stage, the weeks spent in intensive care, as well as the financial and emotional difficulties he faced during recovery. He also spoke about his mistakes and the lessons learned, expressing hope that his journey will inspire others through resilience, faith, and new chances.
Fundraising Details
The musician's interview deeply moved many listeners and fans, who responded with donations. Ndimande shared updates on the donations on Facebook, emphasizing that L'vovo did not ask for this initiative. She noted: 'Please note that L'vovo did not ask for donations. Many people were touched by his interview, and from there we decided to come together and support him.'
Participation and Plans
Many people, including the award-winning musician Khuzani across South Africa, contributed to the collection. The goal of the fundraiser was 250,000 rand, and it appears it will be reached as many strive to support L'vovo. Ndimande published screenshots of WhatsApp conversations with the musician and voice messages in which he thanked her for her help. When IOL contacted L'vovo, he replied: 'no comments at this time,' as he planned to hold a press conference in Johannesburg the following Wednesday. Returning to the spotlight, L'vovo hopes that his story will serve as an impetus for people who have suffered strokes, families facing adversity, and everyone who has ever felt that life has thrown them into an insurmountable state.
