It is reported that Vasco was considering the Iranian forward as a potential addition to its squad. Although the Rio de Janeiro team completed deals for defender Nelson Deossa and midfielder Santiago Sosa, they were also looking for a new striker. Taremi was among the candidates; however, according to the report, the 33-year-old athlete is not interested in moving to Brazilian football at this stage of his career.
Currently playing for Greek club Olympiacos, Taremi received approval from Vasco's football department and was recommended by Sporting Director Admar Lopes and Head Coach Pedro Emanuel. Both specialists are familiar with Taremi's successful period at Portuguese giant Porto. Over four seasons at Porto, Taremi played 182 matches, scoring and providing 138 assists, demonstrating impressive productivity. He later moved to Inter Milan, where he served as a substitute for main strikers Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram.
Vasco da Gama is currently in 17th place in the standings of the 20-team Brazilian Serie A, with 21 points, and is fighting to maintain its spot in the league. The club needs an attack, but Taremi has decided to forgo a move to Brazil for now.
Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Waddu explained to the media that the club's decision to sign Norwegian forward Sebastian Pedersen was driven by the need to improve finishing in front of goal.
Pedersen, who is 27 years old, made an unexpected move to Buccaneers from the Norwegian second-division club Sogndal IL. He has become one of the team's main acquisitions before the start of the Betway Premiership season.
The forward possesses impressive productivity: over the last four and a half seasons, playing for Sogndal and Moss FK, he scored 51 goals and provided eight assists in 117 matches. Furthermore, he started the current Norwegian season in good form, scoring eight goals in 14 games before moving to South Africa.
Waddu admitted that Pirates were specifically looking for a different type of striker who could complement existing players such as Evidens McGopa, Yanela Mbutuma, and Boitumelo Radiopane. The coach noted that the club's sports department was searching for a profile capable of increasing the average conversion rate.
He added: 'I know that last season we were a continental team with the best average number of chances created, and we have good players. I think he will integrate into the group.' The Moroccan coach believes that Pedersen's greatest advantage is his ability to convert chances in the penalty area.
Waddu emphasized that the sports department studied Pedersen and believes he will bring freshness, quality, and competence to the team. The coach also reported that integrating the forward during the club's recent pre-season tour of Spain was an important part of the process, helping him adapt to the new environment before the campaign starts.
Roberto Mancini has been reappointed as the head coach of the Italian national team. This decision was announced by the President of the Italian Football Federation, Giovanni Malaguti, on Tuesday. The goal of the appointment is to revive the Azzurri team, which has not participated in the last three FIFA World Cups.
The technical director, Paolo Maldini, who reportedly threatened to resign if Mancini was appointed, has been replaced by Claudio Ranieri. The first day was dedicated to rapid chess with a time control of 15 minutes plus 10 seconds per move, while the second day was entirely devoted to blitz with a time control of three minutes plus two seconds per move. The USA team includes Hikaru Nakamura, Fabiano Caruana, Wesley So, Levon Aronian, and Leiner Dominguez. In each round, four games are played on four boards, with one player from each team resting on rotation. The fourth round was split between the teams: Aronian defeated Nodirbek Yakubboyev, and Sindarov defeated Dominguez. The decisive game was between So and Abdusattorov, where castling from opposite sides was used. The Uzbek grandmaster won by utilizing the rook against two minor pieces, while the queens remained on the board.
After the conclusion of the first day, Abdusattorov noted that his team played very well and maintains good chances for overall victory. He added that Americans were considered favorites in blitz, but stated that Uzbekistan could have equal chances with confident play.
