Amitesh Kumar Jha, who held the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the quick commerce platform Swiggy Instamart, submitted a resignation effective immediately to pursue other opportunities. This was reported in a filing with the stock exchange on Tuesday.
New Instamart Leadership
Natanda Sinha, former CEO of Myntra, will take charge of Instamart starting August 3rd. According to the filed report, Sinha will be appointed as CEO of Instamart and classified as Senior Management Personnel (SMP).
Sinha's Experience and Mandate
Previously at Myntra, Sinha led the platform which grew into one of the largest fashion e-commerce enterprises in the country. She continued to increase its market share in the highly competitive segment after achieving EBITDA profitability in 2024. Sinha, with over two decades of experience in the consumer internet industry, has built and scaled businesses in fashion, e-commerce, and Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG). Her experience includes leadership roles at Flipkart, Britannia Industries, and Hindustan Unilever.
At Instamart, Sinha will oversee the next phase of the platform's growth, focusing on assortment strategy, improving profitability metrics, and strengthening customer focus and operational efficiency.
Strategic Shifts at Swiggy
The change in leadership comes amid Swiggy's pursuit of Indian Owned and Controlled Company (IOCC) status. This status would allow the company to directly own and sell inventory. Such a move is expected to increase margins and give the company greater control over the supply chain. The proposal is set to be discussed at Swiggy's Annual General Meeting (AGM) on August 18th, approximately two weeks after Sinha assumes her role.
Comments on the Leadership Change
Speaking about her new role, Sinha stated: 'I have long admired what the Instamart team has built. It is a business with a strong customer-centric culture, excellent talent, and significant prospects. Instamart is at the heart of how India purchases its daily necessities, and I look forward to working with our colleagues, partners, and consumers to shape its next chapter of growth.'
Commenting on Sinha's appointment, Sriharsha Majety, Managing Director and Group CEO of Swiggy, noted: 'I am delighted to welcome Natanda Sinha as CEO of Instamart. Natanda is one of the most successful consumer internet leaders in India, and I am excited by the vision, customer obsession, and operational rigor she will bring to the team we have built at Instamart.'
Majety also highlighted that Jha provided valuable guidance to Instamart, steering the platform through a period of growth, enhancing its differentiation through launches like Noice, and improving its margin trajectory. He added that 'during his tenure, he played a crucial role in scaling Instamart through a critical growth phase, building a strong, high-performing culture, and leaving the organization in a stable, well-managed state. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors.'
Jha joined Instamart as CEO in September 2024, after spending over ten years at Flipkart. He replaced Fani Kishan, who previously headed the quick commerce business.
