On Monday, the cornerstone of a modern curd and lassi processing plant with a capacity of 20 metric tons per day was laid in Nalanda. This step marks significant progress in the state's endeavor to become a stronger player in India's rapidly growing dairy market.
Expansion of Production Capacity
Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary participated in laying the foundation stone for this facility under the Biharsharif Dairy Project. This expansion is expected to significantly increase the production capabilities of the flagship brand COMFED—Sudha. The goal of the expansion is to meet the growing demand for value-added dairy products and prepare the brand for competition in global markets, as India strengthens its position as the world's largest milk producer.
Impact on Agriculture
The new complex is intended to stimulate further investment in dairy processing, strengthen Bihar's efforts to create a robust value chain in the dairy industry, and ensure higher returns for farmers. Furthermore, it allows the state to leverage India's growing competitive advantage in the global dairy sector.
Alignment with National Goals
This expansion fully aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of 'Sahkar Se Samriddhi' (Prosperity through Cooperation) and the objectives of 'White Revolution 2.0', launched by Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah. As India strives to strengthen its movement towards developing dairy cooperatives and enhancing the global presence of Indian dairy products, the Sudha brand is gradually transforming from a trusted regional brand into a nationally recognized and globally competitive one.
COMFED's Development Strategy
To achieve this goal, COMFED is expanding village-level cooperative societies, increasing milk procurement, and promoting greater participation of women in the dairy economy. Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Choudhary highly praised the contribution of COMFED and Bihar's dairy cooperatives to the state's rural economy, expressing confidence that Sudha will become a globally competitive dairy brand. He emphasized: 'Sudha represents more than just a dairy brand. It is the foundation of livelihoods, self-sufficiency, and aspirations of millions of dairy farming farmers across Bihar.'
COMFED Achievements and Plans
Through its extensive network of cooperatives, Sudha ensures that producers receive fair remuneration while strengthening the rural economy and creating sustainable livelihoods. Shirsat Kapil Ashok, Managing Director of COMFED, presented the federation's achievements over the first 100 days of the current government, including the establishment of over 2500 new dairy cooperatives across Bihar. This has led to an increase in daily milk procurement by more than 300,000 liters compared to the previous year.
Future Plans
Outlining the roadmap for the next 100 days, Ashok stated that COMFED will develop initiatives such as Sudha Sakhi and Prime Minister's Veterinary Centers, as well as implement key projects for improving livestock breeds. These projects include the proposed Seed Station in Lakhisarai and the AITI Center in Mundher, aimed at enhancing animal genetics and productivity. The Chief Minister also handed over deep freezers to 300 retailers to strengthen the distribution network of frozen Sudha products and launched specially designed transport for transporting sick and weak animals.
