Chevrolet, in collaboration with GM's performance division, has introduced the S10 Trail Boss, a model focused on trail vehicles. Although manufactured in Brazil, this more robust version was initially launched in Argentina and is expected to arrive in the national market soon.
The main attraction of the Trail Boss lies in its preparation for tackling more difficult terrain, featuring elevated suspension, specific tires, and an exclusive design. The model comes from the factory with a certified off-road package.
The suspension of the S10 Trail Boss is developed by Ironman and is exclusive to this configuration. Components such as springs and shock absorbers have been adjusted in sync with the truck's geometry, resulting in an approximate 30 mm increase in front height. This gives the pickup a ground clearance of 32.4 cm, an approach angle of 32.5°, and a departure angle of 22.9°, improving the ability to cross ditches, steps, and steep ramps.
The 18-inch Pirelli Scorpion All-Terrain tires are highlighted for their tread pattern designed to ensure traction in mud, gravel, and dirt, while maintaining good performance on asphalt. Furthermore, electronic modules, sensors, and the front camera have been recalibrated to optimize driver assistance systems (ADAS).
Safety features such as collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane keeping assist, and electronic stability control have been revalidated alongside the new suspension adjustment. Regarding the engine, the S10 Trail Boss uses the 2.8L Duramax turbodiesel engine, which generates 207 hp and 52 kgfm of torque, coupled with an eight-speed automatic transmission and 4x4 with low range. The engine calibration aims to provide progressive responses and utilize torque at low RPMs.
According to Inmetro, the fuel consumption of the S10 Trail Boss is 8.3 km/l in the city and 10.5 km/l on the highway, and it also has an adjustment for Brazilian biodiesel.
To distinguish itself from other S10 versions, the Trail Boss presents external visual details, such as a front grille with a glossy black Black Bowtie badge, a black rear bumper, more prominent fender trims, dark wheels with a specific design, a tubular running board aligned with the extended tailgate, and exclusive decals with Ironman emblems.
The bed equipped with a Multiflex protector and the extended tailgate are standard items and serve as a base for various original accessories, such as dividers, supports, and extra sockets. Inside, the cabin maintains a darker aesthetic, with seats that feature a central velvety material fabric and headrests with Trail Boss embroidery. The cockpit panel integrates an 8-inch digital instrument cluster with the 11-inch MyLink multimedia center.
The off-road version offers Chevrolet's complete connectivity package, including native Wi-Fi, convenience services, and remote updating of electronic systems. The brand's application allows remote control of functions, such as door locking and vehicle start. The model is also equipped with Type A and C USB ports, wireless charging, and smartphone integration, supporting Android Auto with Google's AI assistant.
With the introduction of the new version, the range of options for the S10 now includes five main configurations: WT, Z71, LTZ, Trail Boss, and High Country. Although there is no official price in Brazil, AutoPapo estimates the value of the Chevrolet S10 Trail Boss at around R$ 320 thousand in the country.
Chevrolet has launched the new Trailblazer High Country Midnight, a special edition of the SUV that has been designed with factory preparations to increase its capability on off-road terrain while maintaining comfort. This model incorporates specific suspension, all-terrain tires, and a darkened design, positioning it as the most off-road oriented configuration in the line.
The most notable aspect of this version is the suspension, which is equipped with springs and shock absorbers specifically designed for a seven-seater vehicle. This setup can raise the body by up to 30 mm, increasing the ground clearance to 320 mm. Furthermore, there have been improvements to the approach angle (now 30.1°) and departure angle (24.8°).
According to Chevrolet, all these modifications have been duly approved and have passed rigorous validation processes by the manufacturer, including durability, structural tests, and electronic system recalibration.
To optimize performance on different surfaces, the version uses Michelin LTX Force tires. These tires are designed to provide excellent traction on gravel, mud, and dirt without compromising performance when the vehicle travels on asphalt. The manufacturer claims that the SUV demonstrates less oscillation on uneven surfaces, greater control during curves on low-grip surfaces, and more stability on difficult terrain.
Under the hood, the Trailblazer Midnight continues to use the Duramax 2.8 turbodiesel engine. This engine generates 207 horsepower and 52 kgfm of torque, coupled with an eight-speed automatic transmission and a 4x4 system with low range. According to INMETRO data, fuel consumption is 8.7 km/l in the city and 10.2 km/l on the highway.
In addition to the mechanical improvements, the special series features a distinct look. Components such as the grille, emblems, roof rack, mirrors, door handles, and 18-inch wheels receive black finishing, creating a striking contrast with the exclusive Sharkskin body paint. The package also includes a front bumper extender with LED lighting, visible tow hooks, reinforced underbody protection, and a dark-finished exhaust.
Inside, while retaining the High Country trim, the Midnight receives exclusive seat upholstery and details in dark caramel tones.
The technological package follows the standard of the top-of-the-line version. The SUV is equipped with an 8-inch configurable digital dashboard and an 11-inch MyLink multimedia center. It offers native Wi-Fi connectivity for up to seven devices, in addition to support for OnStar services, the myChevrolet app, and compatibility with Android Auto, integrating with Gemini artificial intelligence.
In terms of safety, the model features autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, forward collision warning, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rearview camera, parking sensors (front and rear), six airbags, and a five-year warranty.
Chevrolet announced that the initial production of the Trailblazer Midnight will be limited to a limited series of approximately 100 units. With this addition, the SUV line now consists of the LT version, primarily aimed at direct sales, the High Country, focused on sophistication, and the new Midnight, directed towards more intense off-road use.
