During early trading sessions, the rupee showed a rise of 28 points, reaching the level of 96.25 against the US dollar. On the foreign exchange market, the rupee opened at 96.18, but then slightly weakened, trading at 96.28 against the dollar, which still provided an increase of 28 points compared to the previous closing level.
Factors driving the rupee's rise
This 28-point rise in the rupee to 96.25 at the beginning of Monday was driven by a sharp decrease in crude oil prices and a general positive sentiment in global markets. The positive backdrop emerged after the US and Iran signaled a reduction in tensions in West Asia.
Market dynamics
The US currency index also fell from a high level. Furthermore, there was a strong buying trend observed in the domestic stock market, which additionally supported the local currency, according to Forex market traders. On Friday, the rupee recovered from a low level and closed 20 points higher, at 96.53 against the US dollar.
Index and oil status
Meanwhile, the dollar index, which reflects the strength of the greenback against a basket of six currencies, traded down by 0.26 percent, standing at 101.04. The global benchmark Brent oil traded on the futures market with a decrease of 4.17 percent, amounting to $92.74 per barrel. Analysts attribute the recovery in oil prices to the reduced tension in West Asia, as the US and Iran suspended military actions against each other.
