The geological sector of Egypt, in collaboration with the British company British Petroleum (BP), is preparing to commission the North Fayoum-4 gas well located in the Mediterranean Sea soon. Daily natural gas production is expected to reach approximately 80 million cubic feet.
This step aligns with the strategy of the Ministry of Oil and Mineral Resources, which aims to boost domestic natural gas production, maximize the use of existing infrastructure, and reduce dependence on imports.
According to the ministry's statement, the increase in production was made possible after the successful completion of a sidetrack drilling operation within the BP drilling program. This operation allowed for the resumption of production from new reservoirs without the need to drill a separate well.
The ministry characterized this as an innovative engineering solution that enables a rapid increase in production volumes while simultaneously reducing costs and optimizing the use of existing wells and production facilities.
It is reported that working groups overcame technical difficulties related to the well restart and completed all necessary work in accordance with the highest standards of safety and efficiency. The target reservoirs are located at depths exceeding 3000 meters, paving the way for the start of production and the addition of new gas volumes to meet domestic demand, decrease the country's import costs, and strengthen Egypt's energy security.
The Ministry of Oil and Mineral Resources announced on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, that Burullus Gas intends to commission the West Mina gas project in early December. The initial natural gas production volume will be 160 million cubic feet per day.
This announcement was made during the visit of Saeid Selim, Executive Managing Director of the Egyptian General Authority for Petroleum and Natural Gas (EGAS), to the Burullus Gas headquarters. During the visit, he reviewed the company's current and future production plans.
The Ministry specified that Burullus Gas is also conducting an acid stimulation program to improve well performance, which is expected to conclude by September. This step is anticipated to increase production by another 40–60 million cubic feet per day.
The meeting also covered the progress in restoring operations at the Sepia Da well using Thermoplastic Composite Pipe (TCP) technology, as well as the company's 4D seismic survey, which is expected to open up new opportunities for extraction in high-temperature and high-pressure reservoirs.
Selim called for a faster implementation of upcoming projects, particularly Phase 12A, scheduled for launch in 2028, and strongly recommended that the entire energy sector utilize the experience gained from Burullus's projects.
