Iran concluded its participation in the 2026 CAFA Women's U20 Championship as the silver medalist. The team conducted a flawless campaign in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.
The regional tournament took place from July 19 to 26 and featured four teams: Iran, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan. Under the guidance of head coach Maryam Jahan Nejati, Iran accumulated seven points from three matches, securing two wins and one draw.
The start of the competition was marked by Iran's victories over Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. Following this, the team drew with Uzbekistan, resulting in both teams being equal in points at the top of the table.
However, Uzbekistan won the title due to a more impressive goal difference after a convincing 7-0 victory over Tajikistan in the final round. This decisive win allowed Uzbekistan to surpass Iran, while the Iranian national team settled for second place, remaining undefeated throughout the tournament.
This result demonstrates the strong qualities of the young Iranian team, even though they could not defend the title they won last year. The victory at the previous CAFA Women's U20 Championship made the current silver medal another impressive achievement on the regional stage. Despite failing to replicate their success, Iran's campaign highlighted the stability and continuous progress of the team, creating an encouraging foundation for the next generation of Iranian women's football.
Iran continued to demonstrate its superiority at the Women's 5x5 Hockey Asian Championship 2026. On Wednesday, the second day of the tournament, the Iranian national team defeated Pakistan with a score of 4:1.
The day began with an impressive game by Iran, who confidently beat the hosts Oman with a score of 11:0. During this match, Setareh Abediniafar received the player of the day award for her outstanding performance.
In the Challenger Pool, Iran secured its second victory in the tournament by beating Pakistan 4:1, thereby increasing its advantage in the standings. Setesh Zarebidoki also showed exceptional play and was deservedly named player of the day.
After the conclusion of the second day, India and China are in an equal position in the Elite Pool, both having seven points, separated only by goal difference. Meanwhile, Iran leads the Challenger Pool, accumulating six points after two consecutive victories.
The tournament continues in Muscat, where teams are fighting for spots in the semi-finals and for the right to qualify for the IIHF 5x5 Hockey World Championship Oman 2026.
