In the modern world, people have become very busy with technology. Work in many offices is now done using smartphones, and social networks are constantly used for entertainment and communication. However, sometimes parents continue to use phones even when spending time with their children. This habit can gradually create distance in the relationship between children and parents.
How Children Distance Themselves From Parents
A study was conducted involving 284 children aged 10 to 15. Participants were surveyed about how often their parents use smartphones, what feelings they experience because of this, and how they behave. The goal was to understand the impact of parents' constant engagement with phones on children.
Children's Emotional State
The study showed that when a child tries to talk to their parents, but the parents' attention is focused on the phone, the child may experience strong anger and sadness. They feel ignored. If this happens regularly, it can negatively affect the child's personality and cause negative emotions.
Deterioration of Relationships with Parents
When parents are constantly occupied with their phone screen, the child, despite numerous attempts, may give up. They begin to feel that conversation is pointless. Gradually, they distance themselves from their parents, and the bond between them weakens.
How to Maintain Emotional Connection
In our time, people already have little time to spend with their children. If a child is talking and you are busy with your phone, the amount of personal interaction decreases, which can lead the child to feel emotionally lonely.
According to the study results, to maintain a good relationship with a child, healthy digital habits should be adopted. Do not use your phone while talking to your child or during meals. If you need to check your phone for an urgent reason, inform your child that you will finish the task and then talk calmly. This will help the child understand your position and strengthen the bond between parents and children.
