If you plan to bake bread at home, you can easily prepare healthy sorghum flour bread without using yeast or an oven. This article presents a simple recipe for making delicious and healthy sorghum flour bread.
Benefits of Sorghum Flour
Sorghum flour is considered very healthy for the body. It is gluten-free and rich in components such as fiber, protein, magnesium, and other essential nutrients. Regular consumption of this flour can help improve digestion, promote a long feeling of fullness, and control blood sugar levels.
This bread is not only gluten-free but also rich in fiber. Notably, its preparation does not require either yeast or an oven. It can be cooked in a pot, a Handi dish, or a pressure cooker.
Ingredients and Preparation
To make this delicious jowar bread, you will need the following ingredients: 2 cups of sorghum flour, 3 tablespoons of psyllium seeds (isabgol), 1/2 teaspoon of salt, 1½ tablespoons of honey, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, 1 tablespoon of vinegar, 2 cups of milk. Optionally, you can sprinkle a seed mixture on top.
To begin the process, first preheat the cookware—Handi, pot, or pressure cooker—on low heat for 10–15 minutes. Then, in a large bowl, mix the jowar atta, isabgol, salt, honey, and baking soda. Gradually add the milk to form the dough. Then, add the vinegar to the mixture and stir thoroughly once more.
Cover the mixture and let it sit for 2–3 minutes so that the psyllium seeds have time to fully absorb the liquid. Pour the resulting liquid mixture into a baking pan lined with parchment paper. If desired, sprinkle the seed mixture on top. Place the pan in the preheated pot or pressure cooker and cook on low heat for 40–45 minutes.
Serving and Storage
After the bread has completely cooled, it can be sliced and served for breakfast with butter, peanut butter, or any other favorite sauce. At room temperature, this bread stays fresh for 1–2 days. However, if the weather is hot or very humid, it is better to store it in the refrigerator, where it can last for 4–5 days.
