Activist Sonam Wangchuk published another video message on Friday night, expressing dissatisfaction with the questions that arose after he ended his hunger strike. In fact, Sonam Wangchuk concluded his fast on Thursday night following a meeting with Central Minister Jay Padda.
Accusations of dealing with authorities
Regarding the end of the hunger strike, there were accusations that 'Sonam Wangchuk made a deal with the government.' Expressing his indignation over these constant questions on Friday evening, Sonam Wangchuk questioned whether he needed to prove his honesty even after 26 days of fasting.
Family reaction and health status
After ending the 26-day hunger strike, Sonam Wangchuk received mixed reactions: some people expressed support for him, while a significant number criticized him. Recently, his wife, Gitanjali J. Angmo, responded, speaking out against the critics. She called on people to pause their political judgments and remember the enormous personal price Wangchuk paid for this movement.
In a post on X, Gitanjali Angmo reported that due to the prolonged fast, Sonam Wangchuk lost 11 kilograms in weight, and he is currently in the intensive care unit (ICU). She emphasized that the weight loss includes muscle mass because he chose self-sacrifice instead of rest. Gitanjali Angmo added that before imposing expectations and political judgments on him, people could at least show him sympathy for one day. She also urged people to understand the significance of fasting for a great cause before criticizing him.
