The Museum of the History of Uzbekistan has resumed its activities after completing a two-year period of reconstruction.
In recent years, under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, large-scale work has been carried out in the country aimed at developing science, preserving cultural heritage, and widely presenting it to the public. The resumption of the Museum of the History of Uzbekistan's operations is one of the practical results of these efforts.
The museum presents the entire history, from the lives of ancient people and the Bronze Age to the first states, ancient civilizations, and the era of the First Renaissance. The exhibition also covers the period of Amir Timur and the Timurids, Uzbek khanates, the rule of the Russian Empire and the Soviet colonial period, the Jadidism movement, and finally, the entire path of independent Uzbekistan's development.
The State Museum of the History of Uzbekistan is preparing for a grand opening after a two-year period of reconstruction. The museum's press service announced that the ceremony will take place on July 24 at 10:00 AM.
From July 24 to July 26, the museum will host 'Open Days,' during which visits for citizens of Uzbekistan will be free of charge.
The museum was closed to the public on June 4, 2024, due to facade repair work and exhibition updates. The Museum of the History of Uzbekistan is recognized as one of the oldest institutions in Central Asia. Its founding dates back to 1876, and this year it celebrates its 150th anniversary.
The museum's collections contain over 350 thousand items, including archaeological artifacts, numismatic collections, manuscripts, and ethnographic materials that illustrate the region's history from ancient times to the present day. The institution was officially granted the status of a state museum on August 5, 1994.
It is worth noting that previously, in April, the State Museum of Timurid History reopened following reconstruction to celebrate the 690th anniversary of Amir Timur's birth.
The placement of the first pillars to demarcate the state border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan has begun following twenty-five years of negotiations. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan.
Work to determine the state border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan started at the point where the states of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan meet. The parties installed the first four pillars in this area.
The total length of the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan is 1008.14 kilometers, and the perimeter of the sections with neutral status is 14.07 kilometers.
To date, joint field work has been conducted over an area of about 416 kilometers. The coordinates and locations for 1627 out of the planned 1954 boundary markers have been preliminarily determined.
These sections are located in the Botken and Lailak districts of Kyrgyzstan, the cities of Isfara and Konibodom of Tajikistan, as well as in other regions of Sughd. The process of agreeing on disputed border sections between the two states began in December 2002. Delimitation was completed in March 2025 with the signing of the state border treaty by Presidents Sadyr Japarov and Emomali Rahmon. The installation of pillars is the next stage—fixing the agreed border line directly on the ground.
