Starting in May 2026, South Africans can apply for this online visa, making South Africa the only African country with access to Japan's online visa system for stays up to 90 days.
According to the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the eVisa system allows eligible applicants to obtain a visa online and receive an electronic document without needing to visit an embassy. Currently, the system is designed for issuing a single-entry short-term tourist visa.
