On the occasion of Men's Month and his 48th birthday, celebrated with awards, composer, academician, and artist Mbuso Khoza will hold a men's conference called iNjob'enhle in his hometown of eShowe on Saturday.
Conference Goals
The event will take place at KwaKhuzumuntu Farm House, located near the KwaBulawayo Royal Palace outside Dlangubo. The main goal of the conference is to empower men through discussions on emotional intelligence, cultural values, responsible fatherhood, as well as the protection of women and children.
Discussing Social Issues
Khoza, who is the leader of the traditional hymns group iJadu le-Afrika, stated that this gathering will provide a platform for men to confront South Africa's social problems and openly discuss personal difficulties that often lead to self-destruction and violence.
He emphasized the desire to 'dig deep and find where we went wrong,' adding that many men's issues go beyond cultural matters, and both cultural and spiritual aspects will be explored.
Causes of Violence and Family Protection
The conference will examine why some men become protectors of their families while others resort to violence against those they are supposed to safeguard. Khoza wants to understand what motivates men to pick up a stick to protect their family, and what leads to anger and beating wives.
Khoza views Gender-Based Violence (GBV) as a disaster that requires a comprehensive approach. Discussions will also touch upon themes of culture, upbringing, and the role of traditional medicine in society.
Significance of Traditional Medicine
He noted the importance of men having knowledge of traditional medicine so they do not have to seek help from other men for their spouses in matters such as massage.
Event Conclusion
The conference will conclude with a performance by iJadu le-Afrika. Khoza announced that several actors he has worked with on the TV series Mzansi Magic uMkhokha: The Curse are expected to attend.
