Two Gol Boeing 737 MAX aircraft scrapped after presenting excessive factory defects

The airline Gol had to return two Boeing 737 MAX 8 jets, which were practically new, due to a large number of problems. After a short period of operation, the aircraft were destined for dismantling, becoming scrap metal.

Aircraft History

The two planes arrived at Gol in 2025. The aircraft with registration PS-GRM began its flights in July and was delivered in September, while PS-GRN started operating in October and was delivered in November. Thus, they were equipment recently off the production line, with only a few months of use.

According to BrasilAviation.info, these aircraft began to show chronic manufacturing failures related to both the CFM LEAP-1B engines and the center of gravity. Because of these problems, the Boeing 737s were withdrawn from passenger transport service in February of this year and sent to the company's maintenance center, located at Confins airport in Belo Horizonte.

Considering that keeping the planes grounded represented a financial loss, Gol decided not to proceed with the repairs of the two 737 MAXs and opted to dispose of them. Instead of flying again, the jets were transported to Pinal Airpark, located in Arizona, United States, one of the largest aircraft disposal sites on the planet. There, they will be dismantled so that their parts can be resold.

A notable aspect is that, being almost new, these jets have become rare items in the market. The website View from the Wing reported that they are the first 737 MAXs to be intentionally dismantled, and the lessor is already advertising the components as 'first-hand' items from lightly used aircraft. Furthermore, Brazilian reports indicate that Boeing is under judicial investigation related to the defects, although the manufacturer has not yet issued official statements on the matter.

The Gol case adds to a series of controversies involving the Boeing 737 MAX since its launch in 2017. This model was introduced as a more economical alternative to the manufacturer's best-selling model, but it was involved in two air tragedies: the crash of the Lion Air flight in October 2018 and the Ethiopian Airlines flight in March 2019, resulting in the death of 346 people. Investigations pointed to the MCAS automated system, which led to the global grounding of the model between 2019 and the end of 2020. More recently, in January 2024, the plane was once again a topic of discussion after a door panel detached during a flight of an Alaska Airlines jet, generating new investigations into assembly line failures at Boeing.

Supreme Court overturns two-year ban on establishing industrial enterprises in the Taj Trapezium Zone

The Supreme Court (SC) has overturned a two-year blanket ban on constructing industrial facilities in the Taj Trapezium Zone (TTZ). This zone covers an area of 10,400 sq km, distributed across five districts in Uttar Pradesh (UP) and one district in Rajasthan. This decision aims to open up opportunities for job creation.

Arguments of the Parties and Petitions

The UP government, represented by General Advisor R. Venkataramani and Senior State Advisor Aishwarya Bati, stated before the bench, which included Chief Justice Surya Kant and judges Joymal Bagchi and V. Mohan, that industrial activity, especially if it involves non-polluting production, should not be completely halted.

The AG requested the court to modify the SC order dated October 14, 2024, which prohibited the construction of any industrial facilities in the TTZ without court permission. He noted that given the aspirations of youth and entrepreneurs, the court could show greater flexibility, especially if a pollution limit is set for each industry using electricity or natural gas.

Opposition and Expert Suggestions

Senior Advocate Aparna Bat opposed this petition, pointing out that the TTZ authority had issued arbitrary permits for glass manufacturing plants that did not comply with environmental standards. Senior Advocate and amicus curiae Liz Matthews proposed that the court consider 410 pending applications for the construction, expansion, or relocation of industrial enterprises in the TTZ by involving environmental experts from the Central Empowered Committee (CEC) and the National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI).

Court Order and Conditions

The bench accepted this proposal after lawyers stated that the authority agreed to any conditions for the protection of the environment and the Taj Mahal. It was decided that the TTZ authority's Industrial Assessment Technical Committee would involve one expert from CEC and one from NEERI to review the 410 applications. The court ruled: 'We grant the experts veto power. Applications will only be considered by the TTZ authority after two independent experts from CEC and NEERI agree on the non-polluting nature of the planned enterprise.'

Furthermore, it was added that if even one of the two experts disagrees, the proposal will be referred to the SC for a final decision. Even if the experts agree to the establishment of the enterprise, it will be sent to the SC for final approval if the amicus curiae deems the matter requires judicial review. Districts within the TTZ include Agra, Firozabad, Mathura, Hathras, Etah, and Bharatpur.

Oracle signs contract worth up to US$ 7 billion with the Pentagon to consolidate software licenses

The United States Department of Defense announced on Thursday (23) a new contract with Oracle, which could reach US$ 7 billion (equivalent to R$ 35.7 billion). This agreement aims to unify the software licenses used in the Pentagon's internal data centers under a single contract.

Objective and Scope of the Agreement

This contract has an initial term of five years, with the possibility of extension for another five years. It is part of a Pentagon strategy focused on reducing expenses and eliminating fragmented technology purchases. The agreement, named Enterprise Software Agreement, was negotiated by the Navy Department and covers the use of Oracle software in local (on-premises) infrastructure.

The scope of the pact includes all Pentagon units, as well as the United States Coast Guard and the U.S. intelligence community. Data OLX Autos and Fenauto (Federation of Used Vehicle Dealers) released the results of the Used Vehicles Index (IVU) for June 2026 in July 2026, covering the entire national territory. This survey aimed to map both the demand and the actual sales volume in the semi-new and used vehicle market, classifying models by body type and age range.

Hatchback Performance

In the hatchback category, leadership positions were maintained in the youngest age brackets, with few changes observed in the intermediate segments.
