Mumbai-based company Cipla reported a 39 percent year-on-year decline in consolidated net profit, amounting to ₹789 crore for the first quarter of the current fiscal year (Q1FY27). Meanwhile, operating revenue increased by 2.3 percent year-on-year, reaching ₹7,119 crore.
Cipla's Managing Director and Global CEO, Achin Gupta, attributed the profit reduction to the North American business benefiting from higher income in the previous quarter due to lenalidomide and ranlotide drugs. He also noted that new products under development are 'not yet ready,' which accounts for the year-on-year profit decrease.
The company's performance in India showed a revenue growth of ₹3,452 crore, which is 12 percent higher compared to last year, marking the highest quarterly revenue for this segment. During the quarter, the branded prescription business grew by 15.4 percent. Among specific areas, respiratory saw a 15 percent growth, diabetic saw 43 percent, cardiological saw 20 percent, and urological saw double-digit growth, according to IQVIA data for the quarter ending June 2026. The company's chronic therapy structure strengthened, reaching 60.4 percent.
The flagship inhaler brand Foracort exceeded ₹1,000 crore in revenue, and two other new brands entered the '₹100 crore club,' bringing the total number of such brands to 33. Cipla stated that it remains the largest pharmaceutical company by sales volume in India, holding over 2 billion units sold in the Indian Pharmaceutical Market (IPM), according to IQVIA MAT data for June 2026.
Cipla's North American business generated quarterly revenue of $162 million, a 28 percent decrease. The company maintained its full-year EBITDA margin forecast within the range of 18.5–20 percent. Gupta anticipates 'significant movement' in the North American region's revenue in upcoming quarters due to the approval of new products, including three respiratory drugs and one peptide opportunity, aiming for a $1 billion run rate for this region.
Gupta clarified that the revenue correction in North America in the current quarter should be viewed sequentially, not on a year-on-year basis. This is because the company lost the ranlotide product due to quality issues and lost exclusivity on lenalidomide in the previous quarter (Q4FY26).
Regarding US tariffs, Gupta stated that the situation is 'evolving' and Cipla continues to monitor it. He noted that about 35–40 percent of the company's production takes place in the US. A two-year industry association opportunity was announced in the US to understand tariff expectations, but he added that two years 'might be too little time to move all production to the US.'
With cash reserves exceeding ₹10,000 crore, Gupta stated that the company's main priority is increasing organic capital expenditure, followed by investments in product development, especially within the American portfolio. Concerning acquisitions, Cipla continues to evaluate opportunities in differentiated and complex products, primarily in the US and Europe, while maintaining a 'disciplined' approach. The company plans to file applications for 45–50 products over the next three years.
Cipla's most advanced biosimilar asset received IND (Investigational New Drug) approval from the US and is commencing clinical trials; two more early-stage assets have been added to it. Commercialization of most of these drugs is expected after 2030–2031.
Concerning the GLP-1 offering, Gupta reported that the tirzepatide brand Yurpeak has become the second-largest brand in the entire GLP-1 category in India, supported by the company's distribution reach in non-metropolitan areas. He added that Cipla will consider launching semaglutide in India only if tirzepatide's effectiveness declines, although the company will continue to apply for semaglutide for global markets based on patent expirations.
Reliance Retail Ventures Ltd (RRVL) reported a year-on-year decrease in net profit of 14.1%, amounting to 2,805 crore rupees, for the first quarter of fiscal year 27.
The company's CEO, Isha Ambani, noted that Reliance Retail demonstrated steady results in the first quarter of fiscal year 27, highlighting growth in key consumer segments. She emphasized that continuous investment in digital commerce business shows the transformative power of digital platforms, while expanding the customer base, having the widest network of stores, and growing omnichannel interaction capabilities allow the company to meet the daily needs of Indians.
Reliance Retail's Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization (EBITDA) decreased by 1.8% to 5,935 crore rupees. During the reporting quarter, which ended in June, financial expenses increased by 34% year-on-year, reaching 793 crore rupees.
Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries, Mukesh Ambani, stated that Reliance Retail showed steady growth this quarter, maintaining stability across all formats and consumption channels. He expressed confidence that the company's omnichannel presence continues to serve millions of Indian consumers and is well-positioned to benefit from long-term consumption growth in India.
During the post-results briefing, Reliance Industries CFO, Shrikant Venkataruri, reported that the company is focused on scaling its digital commerce business, which is supported by physical infrastructure, and plans to develop the digital business in the coming quarters.
The total operating revenue of the country's largest retailer reached 79,745 crore rupees, an 8.2% increase compared to last year. Gross revenue grew by 7.4% to 90,408 crore rupees. When adjusted for the separation of businesses by consumer brands, gross revenue increased by 11.6% year-on-year, demonstrating double-digit growth in the grocery, fashion, lifestyle, and consumer electronics segments.
Compared to the previous period, operating revenue declined by 8.7%, and net profit fell by 21.5%. During the quarter, the company opened 252 new stores, bringing the total number of stores to 20,169, with a total retail area of 78.4 million square feet.
Reliance Consumer Products reported a gross revenue of 8,600 crore rupees for the April-June quarter, more than double the figure from last year. In the daily essentials category, led by the Independence brand, sales amounted to 3,200 crore rupees in the first quarter.
The company also reported that beverages under the Campa brand generated 2,900 crore rupees in revenue in the first quarter, accounting for over 50% of the financial year 26 sales in the first quarter and capturing a double-digit market share in key markets. The fast-moving consumer goods segment now has over 5,000 distributors and is present in more than 3 million points of sale.
Furthermore, the company is expanding its presence in international markets, planning product launches in Australia and African countries. Mukesh Ambani added that the consumer goods business is rapidly evolving, and the portfolio of FMCG brands is gaining real popularity among Indian consumers, and that RCPL (Reliance Consumer Products Ltd) has doubled its revenue compared to the previous year.
