The Garuda Purana is recognized as an extremely important Mahapurana in Hinduism. It not only describes states after death but also teaches people about life rules, ethics, duty, and provides proven methods for achieving success.
Scholars and acharyas believe that if a person incorporates certain special rules outlined in the Garuda Purana into their daily life, their dormant destiny may awaken, and happiness and prosperity will always reign in the home. Below are three simple and significant actions described in the Garuda Purana that can eliminate any life obstacles.
In Hindu tradition, feeding the needy is called Mahadana. According to the Garuda Purana, one who provides food to the poor, helpless, or starving people according to their means sees poverty leave their life. The practice of Annadana guarantees the constant blessings of the goddesses Annapurna and Lakshmi in the home, which brings not only merit but also prevents scarcity of wealth and food in the family.
In Sanatana culture, the cow is revered as Gau Mata, believed to be inhabited by all deities. The Garuda Purana prescribes that when preparing any bread in the house, the first portion must necessarily be set aside for the cow. Furthermore, regular feeding and care for the cow are considered very auspicious acts. This helps to calm planetary imbalances in a person's natal chart, removes negative energy, and opens the path to success and positivity in life.
Ancestors or Pitrus are the foundation of the family. The Garuda Purana indicates that those who respect their ancestors and perform the rituals of Tarpana, Pindadana, or offerings on their memorial days receive the blessings of the ancestors. When ancestors are pleased, family disputes and conflicts subside, the lineage grows, and constant happiness, peace, and abundance settle in the home.
Traditionally, the fast of Yogini Ekadashi is considered special for appeasing Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. Within Hindu and Vedic culture, Tulsi is revered as Lord Vishnu's most beloved companion. There is a belief that performing specific rituals related to the Tulsi plant on Ekadashi day invokes deep favor from Vishnu, which helps eliminate all financial difficulties, conflicts, and problems in the home.
In the evening of Ekadashi, it is recommended to light an oil lamp made of pure cow's ghee near the Tulsi plant. While lighting the lamp, one should chant the mantra 'Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya'. After this, one must perform 11 or 21 circumambulations around the Tulsi plant. Performing this action helps remove negative energy from the house and brings peace and tranquility into the dwelling.
It is believed that worshipping Lord Vishnu without Tulsi leaves is incomplete. Therefore, when offering food to Lord Vishnu or Shri Krishna on Ekadashi day, it is essential to use a Tulsi leaf.
If some roots of your Tulsi plant have dried up, on Ekadashi day, you should take a small amount of dry roots or soil from Mother Tulsi, wrap them in a yellow cloth. Then, these roots should be touched to the feet of Lord Vishnu and placed in a safe or money storage area. It is believed that such a ritual increases the inflow of wealth into the home and helps recover lost funds.
For overcoming obstacles in career or business, it is highly auspicious to sit before the Tulsi on Yogini Ekadashi day and recite the 'Tulsi Namashtakam'. If you do not remember this text by heart, you can perform 108 repetitions of hymns containing the eight names of Mother Tulsi: Vrinda, Vrindani, Vishwapavani, Vishvapujita, Pushpasara, Nandini, Krishnadjivani, and Tulasi.
In case of marital tension or wedding delays, on Ekadashi day, Mother Tulsi should be adorned with a beautiful red shawl, and items symbolizing marital prosperity should be offered to her. Performing this ritual helps attain good fortune and makes married life more harmonious.
