Rain has intensified again in several regions of the country. The monsoon season has become active in states such as Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and West Bengal.
According to data from INSAT-3DR and INSAT-3DS, received on July 22, five cyclonic systems and an active monsoon triple ridge (trough) were observed simultaneously over the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea.
The Indian Meteorological Department explains that these systems are the main reason for the increased rainfall in various parts of the country. After a period of reduced precipitation in some areas of North India, the weather has changed again. A long band of clouds stretching from the Bay of Bengal to the Arabian Sea is clearly visible in satellite images.
Meteorologists note that when several cyclonic systems and the monsoon triple ridge activate simultaneously, the intensity of rainfall increases. This has led to the resumption of good rains around Delhi.
A cyclonic system is an atmospheric system that forms in an area of low pressure where air rotates in a circle, drawing moisture from the surrounding environment. When moist air rises, it cools, forming clouds that then cause precipitation. Currently, five such cyclonic systems have formed over Haryana, northeastern Madhya Pradesh, southwestern Rajasthan, northern Chhattisgarh, and the west-central part of the Bay of Bengal.
The monsoon triple ridge is an extensive low-pressure zone stretching from Rajasthan to the Bay of Bengal. Most systems causing rain form and move near this zone. All five cyclonic systems are associated with this triple ridge, ensuring a constant inflow of moisture from both the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea, which contributes to the formation of large rain clouds.
INSAT-3DR images recorded dense clouds over Odisha, West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Bihar. The temperature of the upper part of these clouds reached from -50 to -70 degrees Celsius. According to scientists, this indicates a significant cloud height and potential for heavy rainfall.
INSAT-3DS images demonstrated a powerful moisture band extending from the Arabian Sea to the Bay of Bengal, indicating high moisture content in the atmosphere and the possibility of the rainy period continuing in the coming days.
Although El Niño continues to influence the weather, daily weather conditions do not depend solely on it. With a strong monsoon triple ridge and the simultaneous activity of several cyclonic systems, good rains can occur even during El Niño.
The Meteorological Department forecasts that rains may continue in central India, on the western coast, in the states of the Western Himalayan region, and in Northeast India over the next few days. Heavy and very heavy rains are expected in some areas of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh, which may lead to flooding and transport problems. However, residents of areas that experienced sparse rain in recent days should expect relief.
