Samsung details smart glasses developed in collaboration with Google

Currently, the price and exact launch date for the glasses have not been set. However, there is an expectation that these devices will reach the US market this semester.

Geographical Expansion and Glasses Updates

HS Jo, Samsung's president in Latin America, informed Tecnoblog in an exclusive interview that Brazil and Mexico may also receive the devices. Although this decision has not yet been finalized, if it proceeds, the launch is expected in 2027.

Regarding the smart glasses, the first models from Samsung and Google will not feature screens on the lenses; this functionality will be reserved for a later generation of the product line. However, they will be equipped with cameras, microphones, and speakers, placing them in direct competition with Meta's glasses.

The partnership with Google will enable the use of Gemini's artificial intelligence features, in addition to offering deeper integration with Android smartphones and Wear OS watches. Samsung's own virtual assistant, Bixby, will also be part of the system.

Design and Technical Specifications

In terms of design, two frames had already been shown during Google I/O in May. Samsung complemented this presentation by displaying two more options, which were conceived in partnership with the brands Warby Parker and Gentle Monster.

To process all these functionalities, the glasses will use Qualcomm chips, specifically the Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 model, the same one used in Meta's glasses. Regarding power, the expected autonomy is nine hours, and the additional charging case will support up to seven recharges.

Privacy Protection Measures

Considering that glasses with cameras frequently generate privacy controversies due to their potential invasive use, Samsung will implement rigorous measures. Like competitors, the devices will feature a video recording indicator LED, but the company will seek to prevent this protection from being bypassed.

Blocking the LED will prevent the use of recording features, and the glasses will also have the ability to detect if this light indicator has been damaged, which will disable the camera's operation. Furthermore, Samsung engineers will work on developing new safeguards and exploring reverse engineering methods to neutralize actions by malicious agents in illicit markets.
