Figma announced this Wednesday (07/22) the implementation of local data hosting in Brazil through the opening of a new office in the city of São Paulo. With this new feature, the platform will allow corporate plan customers to keep their files stored on national servers.
This initiative aims to meet governance and data privacy regulations, aligning Brazil with countries such as the European Union, Australia, and India. In a statement, the collaborative platform, used by teams to develop prototypes and digital interfaces, expressed the expectation that this decentralized infrastructure will give customers greater control over the location of their information without harming service performance.
The new functionality is primarily aimed at large corporations, especially in the technology and finance sectors, which have specific requirements regarding data custody location. Débora Mioranzza, Figma's director for Latin America, commented that Brazil has one of the most vibrant design and technology communities globally. She emphasized that expanding the São Paulo office and bringing data hosting closer reinforces the company's commitment to the country.
Among the clients who use the platform are Itaú Unibanco, iFood, Mercado Livre, Nubank, Sicredi, and BTG Pactual.
The introduction of local hosting accompanies Figma's advancement in the Brazilian territory. Data from the platform itself indicates that in the first quarter of 2026, Brazil was among the five largest markets for the company in terms of weekly active users. In the preceding twelve months, Brazilian users generated approximately 14 million files, which represents half of the large companies listed on the Ibovespa, a significant increase compared to the 35% recorded in mid-2025.
This offering of servers in the country follows the regionalization strategy that began with the adaptation and translation of the platform into Brazilian Portuguese, which occurred in May 2025. The improvements may increase Figma's competitiveness in the national market against Adobe's offerings, following the attempt to acquire the startup for US$20 billion in 2022, which was blocked by UK authorities.
Both Figma and its competitor invest in generative artificial intelligence to support content creation, exemplified by the Figma Make feature. It should be noted that the Figma platform faced plagiarism accusations in 2024 related to designs generated by its tool.
Driving past Barueri, located in the São Paulo Metropolis, along the Mario Covas Highway, one can see a monumental building with a mirrored facade that sharply contrasts with the surrounding area. This is a data center. Although it appears quiet on the outside, it operates constantly inside, processing data using giant computers.
