Samsung has unveiled two new smartwatches belonging to the Galaxy line: the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 and the Galaxy Watch 9. The main innovation in this generation lies in the increased battery capacity, with the Ultra registering a 35% increase, while the traditional Watch model shows a 20% increase.
The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 is equipped with the Snapdragon Wear Elite processor (Qualcomm SDW6100), making it the first Galaxy Watch to use this chip. Its structure is made of titanium, resulting in a body 12% smaller than its predecessor, and it also features a redesigned strap for greater comfort.
This model has a 1.52-inch (38.5 mm) Super AMOLED screen, a resolution of 498 x 498 pixels, sapphire crystal, and a maximum brightness of 5,000 nits. It has 2 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage. Sensors include BioActive (which measures optical biological signal, electrical heart signal, and bioelectrical impedance), temperature, accelerometer, barometer, gyroscope, geomagnetic, and light sensor.
In terms of connectivity, it offers LTE, Bluetooth 6.0, 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi, NFC, and dual-frequency L1+L5 GPS. Its resistance is high, certified by 10ATM+, IP69K, MIL-STD-810H, and EN13319, and it supports fast and wireless charging via the WPC standard. Additionally, the Ultra 2 introduces two advanced features for intense sports: one focused on trail running, which provides elevation data, route maps, and a hydration alarm based on the user's weight and BMI, recommending water intake during exercise; and a specific application for ocean diving, developed in partnership with a specialized sector. The device is available in silver titanium and black titanium, both with a 47 mm case, with the silver version accompanied by a green strap.
The Galaxy Watch 9 preserves the design of the previous generation but now uses an aluminum structure and features a 25% lighter strap. It also incorporates the Snapdragon Wear Elite, sharing the same sensor and connectivity base as the Ultra 2, albeit in a more compact configuration and with lower water resistance.
This model comes in 44 mm (34 g) and 40 mm (31.5 g) sizes. The Super AMOLED screen varies between 1.47 inches (480 x 480 pixels) on the 44 mm model and 1.34 inches (438 x 438 pixels) on the 40 mm model, both with sapphire crystal and up to 3,000 nits brightness. It comes with 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage. Resistance is rated at 5ATM+, IP68, and MIL-STD-810H, and charging is fast and wireless, following the WPC standard. Color options are black and silver for the 44 mm model, and black and cream for the 40 mm model.
Both watches share health functionalities, including vital sign reading, heart health score, continuous monitoring of daily cardio load and fitness level, all evaluated compared to individual standards or age groups. A common feature is the 'raise to talk' function, which allows activating Google's Gemini artificial intelligence assistant without needing to touch or press buttons. Both run on Wear OS 7 and use the One UI 9 Watch interface, requiring a smartphone with Android 13 or higher.
