A new cold front will change the climate picture in various parts of Brazil during this Wednesday, the 22nd, and Thursday, the 23rd. According to Inmet, the storms that were affecting Rio Grande do Sul will expand to the states of Paraná, Mato Grosso do Sul, and southern São Paulo.
Although some locations will experience precipitation, thunderstorms, and temperature variations, others will remain under the influence of dry air and low humidity. The movement of a frontal system across the South, Midwest, and Southeast regions is relocating areas of instability to new points in the national territory. Paraná, Mato Grosso do Sul, and southern São Paulo are the places expected to receive the main warnings in the coming days.
The Low-Level Jet (JBN), responsible for wind gusts in parts of Mato Grosso do Sul and Southern Brazil, is weakening. However, conditions are still favorable for the occurrence of rain, thunderstorms, and even hail. Highlights include intense rainfall in Paraná, Mato Grosso do Sul, and southern São Paulo; thunderstorms and potential hail in the South and Midwest; low humidity during afternoons in the center of the country; and rain showers in the Northeast and far North.
In the South Region, the arrival of the cold front supports the forecast of rain, thunderstorms, and hail in Paraná, Santa Catarina, and northern Rio Grande do Sul this Wednesday (22). Inmet issued an orange danger alert for storms in specific areas of central-west Paraná, Santa Catarina, and the extreme northwest of Rio Grande do Sul, citing municipalities such as Cascavel, Foz do Iguaçu, Guarapuava, and Chapecó.
For Thursday (23), instabilities will migrate to the north of the South Region. Rio Grande do Sul should see weather improvements, but the cold air will cause a drop in temperatures, with Curitiba expected to register a minimum of 10°C and a maximum of 15°C. In the Midwest, Mato Grosso do Sul remains a focus of attention, with expectations of rain, thunderstorms, and possible hail, concentrated mainly in the south and west of the state.
In the Northeast, the forecast points to many clouds and rain showers along the coastal strip, with greater incidence between Maranhão and southern Bahia, while the interior will maintain more stable weather. In the North Region, rains will be concentrated in western Amazonas, Acre, Roraima, Amapá, and Pará, although the south of this region will remain dry and under a low humidity alert.
In the Southeast, São Paulo will be the most impacted state by the cold front, presenting a chance of isolated rain and thunderstorms near the border with Paraná. Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, and Espírito Santo should maintain stable weather. Inmet also warned that low humidity continues to be an issue in Goiás, Federal District, Mato Grosso, Minas Gerais, and São Paulo. Thus, the general scenario remains divided: some areas will face storms and temperature drops, while others will continue under the influence of dry air in the coming days.
