According to reports, over a thousand domain names were seized for the illegal broadcasting of the 2026 World Cup (WC-2026).
These websites broadcasted matches from the final stage of WC-2026 without the permission of the rights holders, thereby infringing on copyrights.
The US government conducted a large-scale operation against sites that illegally streamed WC-2026 matches. This was reported by the country's Department of Justice.
According to the Department's statement, more than 1000 domains were confiscated due to violations of US copyright law because they showed FIFA World Cup games without a license.
The domain confiscations were carried out as part of three separate operations. One of these operations took place at the end of June, during which the activities of nearly 400 internet resources were suspended.
