The Theatre Center in Tehran plans to stage Martin McDonagh's play 'The Beauty of Linan', which is set to premiere next week.
According to a report by Mehr, the performance, directed by Hirbod Oliyayi, will begin on July 26 and run until August 19. The cast includes Mobina Kalate, Ghazal Tafahomi, Shayan Torghi, and Amir Hossein Zareian, with Nima Reisi appearing as a voice actor.
The original version of the play was written in 1996. The 1997 London production received a nomination for 'Best New Play' at the Laurence Olivier Awards, and the 1998 Broadway production was nominated for six Tony Awards, winning four of them.
The action of the play unfolds in the mountains of Galway County, Connemara. 'The Beauty of Linan' tells the dark-comic story of Marin Folan, a lonely and unremarkable woman around forty years old, and her manipulative elderly mother, Mag. The mother's interference in Marin's first, and possibly last, chance at a happy relationship sets off a chain of events leading to the play's tragic ending.
The work is viewed as an example of family dysfunction. This masterpiece by McDonagh is filled with biting humor and intense tension, and it was awarded the Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Play in 1998. 'The Beauty of Linan' is simultaneously a dark comedy and a heartbreaking piece that explores the dark side of human nature and the malice of people living hopeless lives.
As part of the celebration of the 35th anniversary of the Republic of Uzbekistan's state sovereignty, large-scale spiritual, educational, and propaganda events are being held in the Syrdarya region. Participants exchanged views on the significant achievements made during the 35th anniversary of the country's independence, on the reforms being carried out for the welfare of the people, as well as on the value of peace and stability prevailing in the country. It was particularly emphasized that unity, solidarity, and mutual respect among representatives of various nations and ethnicities are important pillars for the development of New Uzbekistan.
Murodjon Khaitov, head of the regional department of the Republic's Center for Spirituality and Enlightenment, noted that such spiritual and educational events are taking place not only in the Saihunobod district but also in 221 settlements across all cities and districts of the region, according to the governor's approved plan, from July 15 to August 15. Furthermore, before the Independence Day celebration, large-scale traditional events are being organized in the centers of regions, cities, and districts.
Khaitov added that the most important thing is that the participants in these events, representing various peoples and ethnicities, unite as one whole for the prosperity of the Motherland and the well-being of the people. He concluded that the achievements and results of the 35th anniversary of independence are a bright fruit of the unity, openness, and selfless labor of the people. The noble idea 'One Homeland, one people, let us create a new life and future!' calls upon every resident to feel their involvement in the fate of the Motherland and to make a worthy contribution to the country's development.
The artistic part of the event also greatly impressed those present. Songs and compositions filled with patriotic spirit, performed by artists, national dances, and scenes added solemnity to the celebration. The children's programs and treats organized for the children were especially joyful.
