GAC officially obtained qualification in the Green Mobility and Innovation Program (Mover) on Monday, the 20th. This Federal Government initiative provides a fund of R$ 3.9 billion in financial credits for companies that meet criteria for innovation and increasing added value to Brazil, with an emphasis on research, development, decarbonization, energy efficiency, vehicle safety, and technology localization.
The Mover Program includes manufacturers with local production, and GAC announced in March that it will begin manufacturing its vehicles in Catalão, Goiás (GO), starting in 2027. This project will be carried out in the same industrial unit that currently produces Mitsubishi automobiles, with support from HPE Automotores. To make this possible, the Chinese brand made an investment of R$ 1.3 billion in the existing plant.
In addition to utilizing existing factory structures, GAC will inaugurate a center dedicated to engineering, research, and development in Brazilian territory. This center aims to create new technologies adapted to the local market. The company indicated that its plans include electric models with extended range (REEV) and flex engines for its electrified lineup.
GAC has not yet disclosed which models will be localized. Currently, its mid-size SUV GS4 is the most successful car, registering 2,259 accumulated sales in 2026. The launch of the new Aion UT also performed well, achieving 659 registrations in June alone. In the first half of 2026, GAC sold 4,948 vehicles in Brazil, positioning itself in the 19th spot in the manufacturers' ranking. The brand's dealership network is still modest but is in the process of expansion.
GAC entered the market in May 2025, presenting an initial range of five vehicles: the electric sedan Aion ES, the electric hatchback Aion Y, the electric mid-size SUV Aion V, the hybrid mid-size SUV GS4, and the luxury electric SUV Hyptec HT. In 2026, the company added the combustion compact SUV GS3 and the electric hatchback Aion UT to its portfolio.
In the growing context of electric bicycles associated with car manufacturers, Volkswagen has introduced a new e-bike intensely focused on safety features. This new model integrates a rear camera, a radar blind spot alert system, smart lighting, and a helmet with functionalities inspired by fighter pilot equipment.
The production of the Volkswagen eBike is carried out by the company n+, which also manufactures electric bicycles for Mercedes-AMG, including models linked to the brand's Formula 1 teams and Petronas. According to Volkswagen itself, the great differential of this vehicle lies not in its speed or autonomy, but in the protection offered to the cyclist.
One of the central elements of the bicycle is the camera installed on the rear fender, whose function is to provide a comprehensive view of traffic behind the cyclist. The captured images are transmitted to a screen located on the handlebars, allowing the user to monitor the rear environment with just a slight head movement.
Additionally, the e-bike has a blind spot alert system based on radar technology. This feature is capable of identifying vehicles approaching the bicycle and notifying the cyclist whenever a potential risk situation is detected. Volkswagen has also implemented improvements to increase the bicycle's visibility to other road users.
An LED strip fixed on the top tube of the frame indicates the cyclist's maneuvers, while the Volkswagen emblem at the rear acts as a brake light. The manufacturer ensures that both elements remain visible even during the daytime.
The bicycle will be available in two distinct configurations: Sport and Crossover. The Crossover version features a rear cargo tray, where LED turn signals are integrated.
The most advanced component of the set is the Smart Helmet. This accessory is equipped with LED lighting that automatically synchronizes with the bicycle, replicating the braking and turning signals emitted by the vehicle. Furthermore, the helmet incorporates an accelerometer designed to detect accidents. If a fall is registered, the system automatically sends a text message to emergency contacts previously registered by the user.
Volkswagen also offers Smart Glasses, designed to operate in conjunction with the Smart Helmet. These glasses function as a head-up display (HUD), displaying crucial real-time information about the bicycle, such as speed, range, navigation data, and safety alerts. If the rear camera detects an approaching vehicle, for example, the cyclist will receive the warning both on the handlebar screen and directly on the glasses. The experience provided is described as analogous to using a fighter pilot's helmet, but specifically adapted for cycling.
Volkswagen sells the Sport and Crossover versions with an initial price set at R$ 22.1 thousand. Both versions already include the Smart View rear camera at no extra cost. For those who wish to purchase the Smart Helmet, an additional investment of R$ 2 thousand is required. The Smart Glasses with the head-up display functionality have a supplementary cost of R$ 2.5 thousand. Finally, the range extender, exclusive to the Crossover version, is offered for R$ 3.8 thousand.
With this complete set of equipment, Volkswagen prioritizes a package focused on cyclist safety, although the technological advancements involved considerably raise the final value of the electric bicycle.
The Freelander 8's first official interior images have been released, making it the brand's first production model to reappear through the collaboration between Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) and Chinese manufacturer Chery. This SUV is scheduled to reach the Chinese market in the second half of 2026 and promises to offer a sophisticated cabin capable of seating six passengers and featuring high technology.
According to Chery JLR, the Freelander 8 will feature a 2+2+2 seating configuration. The second row will have two individual seats called 'zero gravity,' equipped with heating, ventilation, and massage functions. Additionally, retractable tables will be included on the front seatbacks, and cup holders will be present on the armrests of the third row. One of the front seats offers considerable legroom of up to 1.2 meters.
Regarding the dashboard, the vehicle boasts a panoramic 46.3-inch screen, which measures 1.2 meters wide and has an 8K resolution, complemented by a 15.6-inch central display. The multimedia system operates with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8397 processor, and the manufacturer states that it provides superior performance to the previous generation, although the exact criteria for this comparison have not been disclosed.
The Freelander has transcended the status of merely a model name to become an autonomous brand. In 2024, JLR and Chery formalized an agreement to license the name to the joint venture they have maintained in China for over ten years. Operationally, Chery is responsible for engineering and manufacturing, utilizing its plant in Changshu, while JLR provides the name and design guidance. This new brand is independent of both the JLR portfolio (which includes Range Rover, Defender, Discovery, and Jaguar) and Chery's brands, and does not use the Land Rover emblem.
The original Land Rover Freelander was produced in two generations, between 1997 and 2015, serving as Land Rover's most compact and accessible model, positioned below models such as the Defender, Discovery, and Range Rover. It was discontinued after being succeeded by the Discovery Sport. Currently, the name returns as a brand focused on electrified vehicles.
The new SUV employs an 800V REEV (Range Extender Electric) platform. It is equipped with a 1.5-liter gasoline turbo engine that functions as a generator, producing 156 hp, and a 60.3 kWh CATL battery. The range strictly in electric mode reaches 221 km (according to the WLTC cycle), supporting charging up to 350 kW. The vehicle dimensions are 5.118 meters long, 2.05 meters wide, and 1.90 meters high, with a wheelbase of 3.04 meters. Information regarding price, production targets, and definitive versions has not yet been released.
Ford announced its 57th recall for the year 2026, covering 288,314 units of the Explorer SUV model, manufactured between 2016 and 2019. As detailed in a report submitted to the U.S. traffic agency, the defect lies in the longitudinal roof racks, which may detach or loosen from the vehicle.
This issue specifically affects models with satin, chrome, and painted finishes. When the part detaches, the driver may notice signs such as increased aerodynamic noises, whistling, rattling, and a perceptible gap between the bar and the roofline. The manufacturer confirmed awareness of an accident incident related to the detachment of this part.
It is important to note that a portion of the recalled vehicles had already received previous repairs. The NHTSA pointed out that, on certain occasions, technicians failed to replace damaged retaining clips or used inadequate amounts of epoxy adhesive in incorrect locations, in addition to being performed under improper curing conditions. The definitive repair at dealerships requires inspecting the parts, replacing broken clips, and securing them using four push-pin type plastic clamps.
The record of this problem dates back to 2020, when Ford identified the fault and began offering repairs under extended warranty. The official recall was only formalized in April 2021. In March 2026, the NHTSA's defect investigation sector notified the manufacturer about 46 owner complaints, including those whose vehicles had already been repaired.
This event is part of a series of worrying occurrences. In 2025, Ford accounted for approximately 152 recalls, representing the highest number recorded for a single manufacturer in one year, affecting nearly 13 million automobiles. In 2026 alone, according to NHTSA data, more than 50 campaigns were exceeded, reaching 11.2 million affected units. The company justifies this high volume by stating that it reflects a more rigorous approach to identifying and correcting faults before they evolve into more serious problems.
