Every year, tens of millions of students worldwide take entrance examinations that can drastically change their lives. Due to the high significance of these tests, ensuring their integrity has become a matter comparable to conducting the exams themselves.
Even one leak of exam papers or an attempt by an impersonator to take the test for another person can undermine months of hard work and cause public distrust in the entire selection process.
In India, over two million students take the NEET-UG exam annually, which is one of the largest medical entrance examinations globally. Different nations have developed their own protection systems for such critical tests, employing measures reminiscent of national security operations.
The Gaokao exam in China is the country's most important entrance examination. Although it is not exclusively for admission to medical universities, high scores are necessary to secure places in the most competitive medical colleges. The security measures for this exam are among the most advanced in the world.

A major case of mass cheating during a university examination was discovered at a private college in the Jaisalmer district of Rajasthan state. According to reports, invigilators responsible for monitoring the classroom were dictating answers to students.
The 'flying squad' team of Jaynarayan Vyas University conducted a surprise inspection and uncovered the alleged violation. As a result of the inspection, 93 answer books were seized, and a case of mass cheating was registered. The incident occurred on Saturday, and it became known on Wednesday. This situation caused concern in the educational community, and a video recording of the entire event went viral on social media.
According to available information, the incident took place at Shri Karni College, located in the village of Kjoai, Jaisalmer district. On Saturday, from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM, a Hindi literature exam was being held for second-year bachelor's students. During this time, the 'flying squad' team of Jaynarayan Vyas University suddenly arrived at the examination center. The team included Professor Aman Singh, Dr. Suresh Chaudhary, Dr. Lalit Jala, and Dr. Gaurav Jain.
During the inspection, the 'flying squad' found that the invigilators present in the classroom, Jai Karan and Om Prakash, were dictating answers to the students. Preliminary checks showed that the notebooks of many students contained almost identical answers. Following this, the team seized all 93 answer books at the center and registered a case of mass cheating.
The university administration also checked the surveillance camera recordings at the examination center. According to officials, the video recordings confirm that answers were dictated to the students. Based on this data, a detailed investigation into the entire matter has been initiated. Appropriate measures will be taken against the invigilators and the examination center based on the report.
The Principal of Jaisalmer Government College, Shyam Sundar Mina, confirmed the incident, stating that the 'flying team' confiscated all 93 notebooks and provided new copies for the continuation of the exams. He clarified that according to university rules, students found guilty of cheating may be suspended from exams for a period of one to three years. However, the final decision will be made after a meeting of the university's higher management.
'Flying Squad' did not limit its inspection to this center; they also conducted surprise inspections at other centers in Jaisalmer, as well as in colleges in the districts of Andu, Fatehgarh, Ramgarh, and Shiv in the Badmer district. A case of cheating was also identified at the Shiv center in Badmer. Furthermore, checks are ongoing in some private colleges following reports of irregularities during examinations. The university administration stated that maintaining impartiality and transparency in the examination system is its highest priority.
Professor Pawan Kumar Sharma of Tolkuru stated that no cheating or any other violations will be tolerated in any examination center. The university operates under a zero-tolerance policy, and strict action will be taken against those found guilty during the investigation, in accordance with the rules. He also noted that he personally checked the work of many examination centers. After these measures, control has been tightened in other centers across the district. The university's 'flying squad' continues to inspect various examination centers to ensure that exams are conducted fairly and transparently. All attention is now focused on the university administration's next decision regarding the results of these 93 seized notebooks and further actions concerning the examination center.
The Association of Indian Universities (AIU) has appealed to higher education institutions to persuade students not to miss classes to participate in protests related to recent disputes over examinations. AIU emphasized that prolonged protests cause significant damage to the educational process.
In a letter addressed to vice-chancellors and directors of member institutions, AIU President Vinay Kumar Patak urged leaders to engage with students with understanding, while ensuring their energy is not diverted by calls for protests.
This letter was sent on July 21 amid ongoing demonstrations at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, which are linked to the leak of the NEET-UG 2026 exam papers. Protesters and students demand educational reforms, accountability for the leak, and the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Patak noted that in light of recent concerns regarding the conduct of certain national exams, some students across various campuses are absent from classes, participating in demonstrations. He stated that this comes at the expense of their own education. While acknowledging that student concerns deserve attention 'with empathy and respect,' AIU warned that prolonged protests could lead to loss of study time, disruption of preparation, and unnecessary stress.
AIU asserted that such sacrifices are unjustified, as the government intends to resolve all issues and conducted the recent NEET exam 'transparently and without errors.' The exam, held on June 21, took place after the initial May test was canceled due to paper leaks. The association strongly requested university leaders to counsel students, urging them to maintain focus on their studies rather than allowing their energy to be diverted by protest calls.
Furthermore, AIU recommended that students trust the government's efforts to strengthen the examination system instead of succumbing to the influence of 'rumors and speculation.' The letter mentioned that the Prime Minister personally addressed students and assured the nation that all possible steps would be taken to ensure future exams are conducted completely fairly, transparently, and safely. Patak asked institutional heads to communicate directly with students, act as mentors, and keep campuses 'calm and focused.'
