A school in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) plans to capitalize on the growing public interest in motorsport by launching a specialized Motorsport Academy starting in the 2026-27 academic year. This program will provide students with a unique pathway combining racing skills, engineering, technology, and business.
The new program will operate within GEMS School of Research and Innovation (SRI) and will initially be available to students in grades 4-9. It is designed as a special enrichment program that goes beyond traditional sports offerings, providing children with practical experience in one of the world's fastest-growing industries.
Academy students will attend advanced weekly sessions at the Dubai Autodrome in Motor City, alongside their school studies, focusing on simulation racing, race strategy, entrepreneurship, and engineering. School leaders note that this initiative reflects a broader trend in education—a shift towards industry-linked learning experiences that connect classroom lessons with real career opportunities.
The launch comes amid an unprecedented surge in motorsport popularity in the UAE, driven by factors such as Formula 1, international races, karting programs, and the spread of simulation racing among youth.
Joshua Levenson, Director of Future Development at GEMS SRI, emphasized that the appeal of motorsport lies in its integration of multiple disciplines under one concept. He stated that the UAE has become a true motorsport hub due to world-class venues, major events, and growing opportunities for young people.
According to Levenson, young people engage with motorsport not only through the races themselves but also through gaming, technology, and digital platforms. This growing interest was a key motivation for the school's academy implementation. He noted that motorsport combines competition, technology, teamwork, and innovation in a way that strongly resonates with young people.
Furthermore, motorsport allows students to gain exposure to a wide range of sectors—from data analysis and engineering to design, media, and business—helping them develop skills necessary for the future workforce.
Educators believe this program aligns with the general trend of schools expanding opportunities beyond standard sports. Levenson added that while traditional sports will always be important, modern students are seeking more diverse options. He explained that the academy uses racing as a platform to build leadership, resilience, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
Levenson also believes that passion-based learning is becoming increasingly significant as students strive to establish stronger links between education and real life. The academy will introduce children to the numerous career paths existing behind the scenes of motorsport. While drivers often receive the spotlight, the industry heavily relies on engineers, software specialists, data analysts, designers, sports scientists, and marketers. As he observed, a child might join because of a love for racing but discover a passion for engineering, design, technology, or entrepreneurship in the process.
Interest from families is already high, and spots will be limited to ensure individual coaching and mentorship. School administrators suggest that the program may eventually be integrated into the Trailblazer school curriculum, further embedding industry-led learning into students' educational journey.
The IIT Rurikov Institute issued a clarification regarding a supposed email sent to students aimed at preventing protests, stating that many media reports on the matter are erroneous. According to the institute's information, the recommendation sent to students and staff concerning social media and public activity was not a new directive but part of a regular annual internal consultation.
IIT Rurikov rejected the claim that this recommendation constituted a restriction on students' right to express opinions or participate in protests. The institute emphasized that the main goal of such guidelines is to maintain safety on campus, protect the academic environment from potential violations, and ensure the uninterrupted operation of the institution.
The institution expected all students and personnel to use social media responsibly and avoid any actions that could negatively affect the order or safety of the institute. Previously, some student organizations and social media posts claimed that the institute had banned participation in online and offline protests.
Following the emergence of these reports, IIT Rurikov officially provided clarifications, noting that the recommendation was presented out of context. The institute reaffirmed its respect for students' freedom of expression but insisted that all actions must be conducted in compliance with legislation, institute rules, and campus safety measures. Thus, the recommendation is intended to promote responsible behavior and preserve the academic atmosphere, not to restrict legal rights.
Protests against irregularities in the NEET exam were not limited to Delhi; on Monday, they also took place in Mumbai, where people took to the streets in support of the Cokeruch Janata Party (CJP).
During the demonstration, police detained activist and political figure Fahad Ahmad. Svara Bhaskar expressed her dissatisfaction with this arrest on social media by posting a video.
Svara Bhaskar shared a video on Instagram showing Mumbai police grabbing Fahad by the collar and taking him away in a police van during the protest. The clip can be heard with Fahad asking the police officers why he is being arrested. It is reported that this video was filmed around 4:30 PM.
By sharing the video, Svara stated that Fahad and other demonstrators were stopped at the Mahim police station. In the caption, she wrote: 'This is Indian democracy. Shameful circumstances.' She specified that the Mumbai police detained Fahad and other protesters on July 20, 2026, at 4:30 PM at Chaitiyabhoomi and transported them to the Mahim police station.
Fahad's video went viral on social media, and his fans are demanding that the police release him. Furthermore, Svara published another video where Fahad is inside police transport commenting on the situation on site. Svara wrote that she received this video from @fahadzirarahmad on July 20 at 4:30 PM and that he asked her to publish it. She added that the Mumbai police are attacking peaceful demonstrators at Chaitiyabhoomi and called on everyone who wishes to support to come to Chaitiyabhoomi peacefully and in large numbers.
