Nearly 1500 cases of fictitious employment records identified in Uzbekistan

In the first half of 2026, the State Labor Inspectorate under the Ministry of Employment and Poverty Reduction received 1495 appeals from citizens who claimed they were registered as employees without their consent.

Measures taken against violators

After reviewing these complaints, administrative and criminal measures were applied against the heads of 143 operating enterprises and organizations. Additionally, the ministry issued written directives to eliminate the identified violations for another 56 enterprises.

The State Labor Inspectorate reminded citizens that they can contact the agency via the short number 1176 or through the official bot on Telegram @munosibmehnat_bot if they discover employment records registered without their personal consent. The agency emphasized that every appeal is reviewed in accordance with legal requirements, after which necessary responsive measures are taken.

Fraud scheme uncovered in Uzbekistan resulting in theft of over one billion soums

Law enforcement agencies in Uzbekistan are investigating a group of individuals suspected of embezzling funds from more than 456 people. The fraudsters used a fake website imitating the country's official Interactive Government Services Portal, my.gov.uz.

Modus Operandi

According to preliminary investigation data, the organizer of the scheme is a 33-year-old resident of the Khorezm region. He created a counterfeit website that outwardly resembled the government services portal and actively promoted it on Instagram through advertising. The advertisements claimed that users were entitled to receive state compensation and social benefits. To give the scheme an appearance of legitimacy, the name 'Moliya vazirligi' ('Ministry of Finance') was used.

How the Funds Were Stolen

Victims were promised the automatic transfer of about 30 million soums to their bank cards. To receive these funds, victims were asked to click a special link, fill out an online form, and provide their bank card details. Investigators claim that after receiving this information, the suspects gained access to the victims' bank accounts and appropriated the funds held therein.

Participation and Further Use of Funds

The investigation established that individuals aged 20 to 24 participated in the scheme. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, these young people provided the criminal group with 293 drop cards registered under the names of 26 people. The stolen money was first transferred to these cards and then converted into cryptocurrency for subsequent laundering.

Legal Consequences

Criminal cases have been initiated against the suspects under Articles 168 (Fraud) and 278-6 (Creation, use, or distribution of malicious software) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The investigation is ongoing.

447 workplace accidents registered in Uzbekistan over six months, 137 people died

The State Labor Inspectorate reported that in the first half of 2026, 447 incidents related to labor activities were recorded in Uzbekistan. As a result of these events, 494 workers were injured, and 137 of them died.

Accident Statistics

According to the agency's data, 21 of the registered cases were classified as group accidents. Of the total number of injured, 337 sustained serious injuries, 20 sustained minor injuries, and 113 cases resulted in death. The total number of fatalities was 137 people.

Geography of Accidents

The highest number of accidents was noted in Tashkent—where 95 were counted. Next in number are the Tashkent region (58 cases), Kashkadarya region (38), Bukhara region (34), as well as Samarkand and Andijan regions, each with 33 cases. Navoi region registered 31 incidents, while the lowest number was recorded in Khorezm region (13), Surkhandarya and Jizzakh regions (16 each).

Industrial Sectors as Leaders

By industry affiliation, the largest number of incidents belongs to industry—144 cases. Construction is also a significant sector with 127 registered incidents. Other sectors were distributed as follows: other industries—87, transport and logistics—17, trade and services—16, healthcare and agriculture and water management—14 each, education—13. Culture and sports showed the lowest frequency of accidents (2), information technology (3), and law enforcement (4).

Financial Compensation and Period Comparison

The Inspectorate specified that a total amount of 10.376 billion soms was recovered for the benefit of the victims and the families of the deceased. These funds were provided in the form of lump-sum and monthly payments, with the average amount per victim or deceased reaching 21 million soms.

For context, in the first quarter of 2026, 198 work-related accidents occurred in the country, of which 62 people died, and another 146 received serious injuries. The main mass of incidents during this period was also related to industry and construction. Looking at last year, 849 workplace accidents were registered in Uzbekistan, leading to the death of 248 people and the injury of 961 workers, of whom 680 suffered severe injuries and 33 minor ones.
