An official stated that the total capacity of renewable power plants in the country has exceeded the 5400 MW mark. It was announced that provided there is adequate equipment, foreign currency, and financial resources, the goal of exceeding 7000 MW by the end of the summer will be achieved.
At the International Conference on Renewable Energy in Iran, Jafar Mohammadnejad Sigarrudi, Deputy for Investments at the Organization of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (SATBA), reported on Monday, July 20. He specified that the installed capacity of the country's renewable power plants has surpassed 5400 MW, and SATBA's plan remains unchanged—to reach over 7000 MW by the end of the summer.
Sigarrudi noted that despite difficulties with equipment supplies, especially imports, efforts are being made to implement this plan. He emphasized that if obstacles are removed, the capacity of renewable power plants could increase even further.
According to the Deputy for Investments of SATBA, between 1000 and 1500 MW of renewable power plants are currently under construction. He added that most of the equipment for these projects has either already been delivered or is being supplied domestically, which increases the likelihood of meeting development plans. Any possible delays are related to a shortage of equipment and foreign currency.
Mohammadnejad Sigarrudi stressed that delays in implementing plans are not due to technical problems, as permits, contracts, and site selections have been completed nationwide. The main challenges cited are securing equipment, financing, and distributing foreign currency for equipment imports.
He also reported that since the second half of last year, the processes for issuing permits, allocating land, and grid connection have been transferred to provincial authorities, which has helped resolve many administrative complexities. Furthermore, permission has been granted for branch power plants to sell electricity through the Energy Exchange.
Sigarrudi announced the approval for branch power plants to sell electricity through aggregators on the Energy Exchange's Green Board. This approval was obtained last week and will soon be communicated to interested parties. He explained that owners of solar power plants—residential, commercial, administrative, and agricultural—will be able to offer generated energy through licensed companies on the Energy Exchange. This model is used in many countries worldwide and promotes microcapital participation.
The Deputy for Investments of SATBA also reported a request for $600 million in foreign currency to purchase equipment for renewable power plants. This request was submitted to the Ministry of Industry, Mining, and Trade after reviewing applicants' documents. It was promised that the sector would receive between $100 and $150 million in foreign currency monthly.
SATBA, in conjunction with the Ministry of Industry, Mining, and Trade, will monitor currency distribution to ensure that foreign currency resources are directed exclusively to licensed projects, approved equipment, and at standard prices, preventing any misuse.
The Tenth International Conference and Exhibition on Renewable Energy in Iran, held concurrently with the 7th National Renewable Energy Award Ceremony, took place on July 20–21 at the Milad Tower International Convention Center. This event is designed as a specialized platform for interaction among politicians, industry representatives, investors, knowledge-based companies, and the academic community, reflecting the transition of renewable energy from an 'alternative option' to one of the 'main pillars of national energy planning.'
The rapid expansion of solar power plants, the successful formation of the green electricity market, and legislative requirements mandating the supply of industrial electricity from clean sources indicate that the industry has entered a phase of growth and maturity. These aspects will be discussed in detail at the conference.
In June 2026, large solar and wind power plants in Uzbekistan generated 1 billion 293.7 million kWh of electricity. This figure exceeds the volume recorded during the same period last year by 22.9 percent. The data was presented by the Ministry of Energy.
According to industry data, solar power plants provided a generation volume of 1 billion 48 million kWh, while wind power plants produced 245.7 million kWh.
The increase in electricity generation from renewable sources allowed for savings of 344 million cubic meters of natural gas and prevented the emission of 743,000 tons of harmful substances into the atmosphere.
For comparison, in June 2025, the total volume of electricity generation from solar and wind installations was 1 billion 52 million kWh. The volume produced in June is equivalent to the average monthly consumption of approximately 6.5 million households or the annual consumption of 541,000 households.
