There is a significant change in the SABC 1 schedule as the program 'Generations: The Legacy' changes its usual weekday broadcast time at 20:00 for the first time in over three decades.
Starting Monday, July 27, 'Generations: The Legacy' will be broadcast at 20:30. This frees up the 20:00 slot for the program 'Uzalo', which will now occupy that time as part of the broadcaster's large-scale prime-time grid restructuring.
SABC 1 asserts that this change does not represent a decrease in quality for one of the country's most well-known television dramas. Instead, the broadcaster calls it a strategic adjustment that allows it to keep both of its most popular soap operas in prime time.
SABC 1 Head, Ofentse Tinanane, emphasized that 'Uzalo' and 'Generations: The Legacy' remain key elements of the channel's evening programming. He noted that both shows 'created these evenings together' and continue to hold a central place in SABC 1's prime time. Tinanane explained that starting July 27, they are simply swapping places, and viewers will be able to enjoy both shows consecutively, as 'Generations: The Legacy' is not leaving prime time but rather 'closing' it.
For viewers, the main change is merely a shift in routine, as both soap operas will air one after the other, but in reverse order.
The new weekday evening schedule on SABC 1 starting July 27 is as follows: 'Skeem Saam' will air at 19:30, 'Uzalo' at 20:00, and 'Generations: The Legacy' at 20:30. SABC also announced that additional changes to the program will be made on the same day.
