Tata Power announced on Monday that it has received a Letter of Award (LoA) from the Solar Energy Corporation of India Ltd (SECI) to supply 324 MW of electricity from its 1000 MW Pumped Hydro Storage Project (PSP) located in Bhivpuri, Maharashtra state.
This project was selected as part of a global competitive tender conducted by SECI based on tariffs. The tender aimed to secure 1500 MW / 12,000 MWh of electricity from planned pumped hydro storage projects in the country. The contract was concluded through an electronic reverse auction system.
The project involves a 40-year Power Purchase Agreement (PSP) and is scheduled to be commissioned by 2029. It will be implemented under a Build, Own, Operate (BOO) model and will provide energy storage for 8 hours, ensuring stable power supply during peak demand periods. The energy will be transmitted via the Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) to the South Kalamb Central Transmission Utility (CTU) at 765/400 kV.
The award of this contract strengthens Tata Power's position in the long-term energy storage segment. This segment is crucial for integrating India's rapidly growing solar and wind generation into the main grid, as it allows surplus daytime generation to be converted into reliable, dispatchable energy available around the clock. This decision aligns with Tata Power's overall clean energy strategy and its goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2045.
The company's clean and green portfolio now stands at 17.5 GW, including a pipeline of 9.6 GW in development, of which 2.8 GW is dedicated to pumped storage. Tata Power Company Ltd, a vertically integrated energy company and part of the Tata Group, has formed a diversified portfolio across the entire energy value chain. The company's total operational and planned capacity exceeds 26 GW, including approximately 17.5 GW of clean and green energy (including projects under construction) and about 8.9 GW of thermal generation, ensuring a balanced and sustainable energy mix.
According to the response received under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, more than 262 crore rupees were spent on payments, allowances, and other benefits for members of the Rajya Sabha over the last two financial years, with over 151 crore rupees allocated solely for allowances and travel.
The RTI response showed a sharp increase in expenses for sitting Rajya Sabha members: while these costs exceeded 98 crore rupees in 2024-25, they reached over 163 crore rupees in 2025-26, representing an increase of nearly 65 crore rupees in a single year.
Total expenditures covered salaries, domestic and international travel, office needs, reimbursement of medical expenses, and other benefits provided to the MPs. In 2024-25, the government spent over 25.71 crore rupees on salaries, 8.2 crore rupees on medical bills, 24.99 crore rupees on transportation costs, and more than 33.33 crore rupees on allowances.
In the financial year 2025-26, salaries increased to over 44.6 crore rupees, while medical bills amounted to 9.6 crore rupees. Transportation costs rose to 36 crore rupees, and allowances exceeded 58.78 crore rupees, as stated in the response provided by the Rajya Sabha Secretariat in reply to the RTI query filed by Chandram Shekhar Gaur.
Rajya Sabha members are entitled to various benefits across 21 different expense heads, including remuneration, allowances, domestic and foreign travel, office expenses, and treatment reimbursements. Other expense heads include printing and publication, digital equipment, fuel and lubricants, professional services, repair and maintenance, subsidies, and other income-related expenditures.
