Tanzania and Egypt reached an agreement on strengthening economic interaction in several industries on Saturday following meetings between Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan and her Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, who concluded a one-day state visit to Tanzania.
The agreement was concluded after official negotiations held at the State House in Dar es Salaam. The leaders of both countries pledged to strengthen joint work in the fields of agriculture, livestock farming, healthcare, education, transport, and investment.
After the meeting, Hassan stated that both countries will focus on increasing food production through irrigated agriculture, improving the livestock sector, and expanding bilateral trade. She also announced that Tanzania proposed the Ruvuma ranch for joint livestock development projects and invited Egypt to invest through state institutions.
Furthermore, the leaders agreed to intensify cooperation in the field of transport and logistics by improving port infrastructure, railway lines, roads, and maritime transport. Tanzania aims to make the Port of Dar es Salaam a key regional trade hub.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates, Badr Abdel Atti, stated on Monday that Egypt is ready to share its development experience and provide technical support to Mozambique, as both countries seek to strengthen bilateral interaction.
During a joint press conference with his Mozambican counterpart, Maria Lucas, Abdel Atti noted that Egyptian companies, which have played an important role in developing Egypt's infrastructure, are ready to contribute to Mozambique's efforts towards achieving sustainable development.
The Minister emphasized the special significance of this trip, as it coincides with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Egypt and Mozambique. He described the bilateral ties as being based on mutual trust and Egypt's long-standing support for the movements for African liberation.
Discussions focused on strengthening the partnership, especially in the economic and investment sectors, as well as promoting the outcomes of President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi's visit to Maputo in 2023. The Minister added that he conveyed an invitation to the President of Mozambique to visit Cairo later this year, and both sides agreed to coordinate the timing of this visit as part of launching a new phase of their development partnership.
Furthermore, the countries agreed to accelerate preparations for the third session of the Joint High Committee of Egypt and Mozambique, which is scheduled to take place in Cairo. Abdel Atti reported that the relevant technical committees have been instructed to finalize pending agreements and memorandums of understanding before the committee meeting.
