Ras Al Khaimah welcomed over 670,000 visitors in the first half of the year. This growth was driven by a sharp increase in domestic tourism, which helped the emirate overcome one of the most challenging periods for the tourism sector, according to the Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority (RAKTDA).

Strategy and Domestic Demand
Philip Harrison, CEO of RAKTDA, noted that domestic demand remains a crucial pillar of the emirate's tourism strategy, supporting hotel occupancy even during the summer months. She emphasized that the 'RAK Moments' campaign continues to stimulate domestic demand, securing 224,000 room nights and attracting 127,817 additional visitors in the second quarter, which is 67.1% more than the previous year.
According to Harrison, the peak of domestic visits was reached in May, when the number of guests more than doubled compared to the same month last year, showing a growth of 132.7%. Overall, domestic tourism increased by 47.1% in the first half of the year.
Modern Traveler Expectations
Harrison added that travelers are increasingly seeking flexibility and personalized approaches, with value extending beyond just price. Furthermore, wellness has become a common expectation rather than a niche offering, influencing tourists' destination choices.
To maintain momentum during the warm season, RAKTDA is collaborating with hospitality partners to offer various seasonal packages. These offers range from beach holidays and all-inclusive tours to wellness retreats and family events.
Summer Activities and Partnerships
Among this summer's events is the 'Flavours of Ras Al Khaimah' gastronomic series, running from July to September across five restaurants. This initiative features special menus starting from 125 dirhams per person, showcasing local Ras Al Khaimah honey and encouraging visitors to explore different venues through a passport program with prize incentives.
Harrison also reported that the authority has entered into partnerships with Fujifilm Instax Middle East and Grand Stores. The goal of these partnerships is to motivate tourists to document their vacations through exclusive hotel packages, Instax rewards, and the chance to win future trips.
Hotels across the emirate are implementing seasonal promotions, such as 'stay five nights, pay for four' deals, complimentary meal plan upgrades, room category upgrades, and free children's stays to attract families and domestic tourists.
Attractions and Long-Term Plans
In addition to hotel stays, Ras Al Khaimah's beaches remain a central element of visitor experiences during cooler hours. During peak daytime temperatures, indoor entertainment, spas, cultural sites, and dining spots are available. Noted attractions include Suwaidi Pearl, the Ras Al Khaimah National Museum, Al Jazira Al Hamra historical village, Al Hamra Mall, and Manar Mall.
In the long term, Harrison stated that the authority's strategy is to position Ras Al Khaimah as a year-round destination, rather than depending on a single peak tourist season. Future development will be supported by the opening of Rotana Ras Al Khaimah – The Mangroves in the third quarter, as well as SAIJ Mountain Lodge by Mantis later this year, alongside continuous investment and enhancement of visitor experiences.
