The National Medical Commission (NMC) is discontinuing routine compliance checks for candidates when appointing and promoting teaching staff in medical colleges across the country. Medical educational institutions will now be responsible for making these decisions themselves.
The regulator will only review exceptional cases related to ambiguities in regulations, for which a fee of 25,000 rupees plus VAT will be charged. This decision was made after observing a large number of appeals from faculty members, medical colleges, universities, and hospitals accredited by NBEMS, which were directed to the NMC.
These appeals were received despite the fact that the Medical Institutions Regulations (Faculty Qualification) 2025 clearly defines the requirements for qualifications, teaching experience, publications in scientific journals, and training for teaching positions. Officials stated that the responsibility for determining a candidate's suitability for appointment, promotion, or designation lies with the relevant appointing authority, medical institution, or university.
The Postgraduate Medical Education Board (PGMEB) will no longer consider cases where compliance with requirements can be determined directly according to established norms. Individuals may approach the NMC directly only if their institution has not submitted a justified case within 60 days. The President of the Assessment and Rating Council, Professor M. K. Ramesh, noted that many candidates appealed to the NMC even for simple matters because the NMC compliance certificate was rarely questioned.
Furthermore, the NMC has introduced a review mechanism for applicants dissatisfied with an institution's decision. They have the right to request a review within 30 days. These changes aim to increase institutional accountability, reduce unnecessary appeals and litigation, and concentrate the regulator on complex cases.
Important information has emerged for candidates awaiting employment as teachers in Uttar Pradesh. The Uttar Pradesh Employment Selection Commission (UPESSC) has received proposals to recruit thousands of staff members for positions as faculty and assistant professors in government colleges.
The chairman of the commission, Prashant Kumar, informed aajtak.in that over the last ten days, the commission received requests for 211 principal positions and 2107 assistant professor positions. Following the final determination of the total number of vacancies, an announcement regarding recruitment is planned for August.
Furthermore, Prashant Kumar noted that previously incomplete recruitments will also be finalized soon. It is planned that recruitments through the PGT, TGT, and TET qualification exams will be completed within the next two months.
The commission was established in 2023 with the aim of conducting an integrated and transparent hiring process for teachers and directors in secondary, higher education institutions, and ITI institutes. UPESSC manages the recruitment process for positions such as Assistant Professor, TGT, PGT, ITI Instructor, and College Director.
According to the chairman of the commission, four major examinations, including TGT, PGT, Assistant Professor, and TET, have been conducted in the last six months. The results of three of these have already been announced, while the remaining processes are in the final stages. The commission strives to complete old recruitments as soon as possible to pave the way for new hiring procedures.
Regarding exam security, Prashant Kumar stated that the use of technology begins at the application stage. Data analysis and artificial intelligence are used to monitor suspicious activity. Candidate identification is ensured through biometric verification and other digital methods. He also mentioned that 44 suspicious individuals were detained during a recent TET exam. The commission engages professional agencies and coordinates with district administration and high-level government bodies to conduct the exams.
The commission chairman explained that to maintain the impartiality of the exams, public candidates are not provided with examination centers in their native districts. This concession is available only to candidates with disabilities. Efforts are made to arrange examination centers in neighboring districts or nearby regions to minimize travel and maintain transparency. It was noted that approximately 2 million candidates registered for TET 2026, with an attendance rate of about 88 percent. When allocating exam seats, it is taken into account that people from the same family or village should not sit together, and separate arrangements are made for twins.
Prashant Kumar emphasized that the commission's goal is to ensure a merit-based, transparent, and error-free hiring process. He stated that the commission is constantly working to ensure that hiring processes proceed without interruption. He added that completing all old recruitments and successfully conducting new processes are the commission's main priorities for the future.
