Two months after releasing the popular joint collection with Audemars Piguet titled 'Royal Pop', watch manufacturer Swatch has presented another collaboration with the Swiss brand Omega.
The MoonSwatch collection draws significant inspiration from the iconic Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch, but it is offered at a significantly more accessible price point. These watches have a diameter of 42 mm and a thickness of 13 mm. They are equipped with indices and hands using Super-LumiNova, similar to the Omega Speedmaster, and operate on an ETA G10.212 quartz movement. Furthermore, they are made from Bioceramic—a composite material patented and developed by Swatch.
Although this partnership is not new, having first been introduced in 2022, the 'Mission to the Moon 1969' model is generating the most interest among watch enthusiasts.
This model is a limited series, released in a limited run of 1969 pieces to commemorate the Apollo 11 mission's landing on the Moon in 1969. A distinctive feature of the watch is the use of Omega's 18K Moonshine gold for the dial, hands, crown, and buttons. Each such model contains a total of 11 grams of gold, which was melted down from old Omega spare parts dating back to the Apollo era.
Even the price of 500 Swiss Francs (approximately 2,272 Dirhams) was calculated based on the gold price on July 21, 1969, rather than current metal prices, linking the watch's value to a historical moment.
The exclusive watches will only be available to those who register to participate. Applicants will have two hours and fifteen minutes to complete a 32-question form on the official website. The application period runs from July 16 to July 21, 2026. Following this, selected participants will receive further instructions regarding the purchase process.
The original MoonSwatch collection includes 11 models, each dedicated to a specific body of the solar system. The main difference between them lies in color and minor design details, rather than substantial structural changes. The 'Mission to the Sun' model features a bright golden, matte shade, while 'Mission to Mercury' is rendered in a deep gray in honor of the planet. 'Mission to Venus' uses powdery pink hues with oval subdials, and 'Mission on Earth' combines blue and green colors, symbolizing our planet.
'Mission to the Moon' represents the most accurate reconstruction of the original Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch design. The 'Mission to Mars' model is presented in red and features the characteristic 'Alaska Project' hands, while 'Mission to Jupiter' is bronze with an orange 'Ultraman' second hand. 'Mission to Saturn' is finished in beige with an image of the planet's rings at the 6 o'clock position, and 'Mission to Uranus' uses a pale blue shade referencing the Greek god of the sky. Finally, 'Mission to Neptune' is designed in a deep blue, reflecting the theme of the 'ice giant,' and 'Mission to Pluto' concludes the collection in gray and burgundy tones, corresponding to the dwarf planet.
All these models can be purchased online and in Swatch stores across the UAE.
