Political disputes continue in West Bengal surrounding the rape and murder case in Baruipur. Arji Kar, the mother of the rape victim, and Ratna Debanath, a Member of Parliament from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Panihati, reacted to the situation. Both expressed anger over the current state of affairs in West Bengal and criticized the policies of the previous government.
BJP MP's Comments
Ratna Debanath shared his grief, noting that he has once again witnessed a brutal incident. He emphasized that he always hoped no mother or daughter would endure such pain, but its recurrence causes him particular sorrow.
The BJP MP stated that he cried all night, contemplating how another parent must watch their daughter meet such a terrible end. He expressed confidence that the arrival of the new government will ensure justice different from what existed before.
Criticism of Past Governments
Speaking out against the former state government, Debanath questioned why such tragedies occur. He asserted that the Trinamool government and all preceding authorities, instead of focusing on healthcare and education, promoted gambling and alcohol among the youth, leading to the current societal condition.
Reaction to Suspect's Killing
In the Baruipur rape case, a crowd brutally beat and killed one of the suspects. Regarding this, Debanath noted that after the incident, people became overly aggressive towards 'Arji Kar' and did not leave her alone. People might have thought that if he were released, he would escape or something else would happen, which is why the crowd killed him; however, he stressed that this method was wrong. He added that work should be entrusted to the administration, as they cannot take the law into their own hands, especially now that there is a government.
Accusations Against Politicians
When asked about allegations of involvement by a local BJP politician in the case, he replied that this person could not call himself a supporter of the BJP. He pointed out that after the BJP's victory on the 4th, all Trinamool members suddenly became BJP members. He added that he cannot understand who this person is if they suddenly stand by him, but the truth is that this person was previously in Trinamool and has now switched to the BJP.
Accusations Against Mamata Banerjee
Ratna Debanath supported the police decision to deny Mamata Banerjee access to the affected area. He stated that the police acted absolutely correctly by preventing her from going there. He speculated that if she had gone, she might have given money to the criminals or saved them by paying the parents. He claimed that she had done this for a long time, and the case of his daughter was no exception.
Debanath also reproached her, asking why, as the Health Minister, she failed to ensure justice and why she concealed the criminals. He expressed distrust regarding how millions of taxpayers' money was spent on saving certain civil volunteers, assuring that punishment would be determined this time.
