TP-Link Deco X10 Analysis: How the Mesh System Solves Weak Signal Problems in Homes

Mesh routers were developed to solve a frequent difficulty: unstable internet signal in different areas of a house. Previously, power plug repeaters were used, but these created isolated networks and interrupted the connection when moving from room to room. The Mesh system operates differently because it distributes multiple towers throughout the residence, establishing a single, cohesive network. This allows the user to move between rooms, such as the bedroom, living room, or kitchen, without experiencing signal drops.

Olhar Digital conducted a detailed evaluation of one of the entry-level Mesh router models, the TP-Link Deco X10, which is available in multi-unit packages. This device offers several functionalities, including the Wi-Fi 6 standard (AX1500), with a nominal speed of up to 1,500 Mbps (distributed between 1,201 Mbps on 5 GHz and 300 Mbps on 2.4 GHz).

Functionality and Design

The Deco X10 operates with Dual-Band Mesh technology, ensuring unified network coverage with Seamless Roaming. Each unit has two Gigabit network ports (10/100/1000 Mbps) and can support up to 150 simultaneously connected devices. Its management and configuration are done exclusively through the TP-Link Deco mobile application, and it includes basic Parental Control and QoS (Quality of Service) features.

In terms of aesthetics, the Deco X10 features a minimalist and discreet design, being a compact white plastic cylinder that integrates into the decor. It dispenses with external antennas, hiding physical connections on the back. Air vents are located on top to prevent overheating, while the two Gigabit ports are on the back, allowing for wired connections for those who prefer. Power supply is also rear-mounted, and the device has no on/off buttons; a small bottom hole serves to reset the system in case of problems.

Network Performance and Stability

The total speed of the Deco X10 reaches 1,500 Mbps on the Wi-Fi 6 networks, with this capacity divided between the two frequencies (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz). The router's main focus is not necessarily to offer the highest speeds, but rather to maximize network stability and reliability. It manages to distribute the signal uniformly among all connected devices, whether they are smartphones, laptops, smart bulbs, or cameras, preventing slowness or bottlenecks.

Support for Mesh technology allows compatible routers to communicate with each other, forming a single network for the entire home. Unlike traditional repeaters, which create distinct networks based on their location, Mesh systems maintain the same signal throughout the environment, enabling fluid movement between rooms without the need for manual reconnection.

Compatibility and Installation

A relevant point is the compatibility of the Deco X10 with both older and newer TP-Link models. This means that even when purchasing a more modern and powerful router from the same brand, older Deco X10 units can be used together to maintain signal stability throughout the residence.

The setup of the TP-Link Deco X10 is simplified and performed using the brand's smartphone application. After connecting the device to the provider's modem, simply follow the instructions displayed on the phone screen. Additional routers of the same model, when plugged into an outlet, automatically synchronize, eliminating any additional configuration needed to expand coverage.

Advantages and Limitations of the Model

This system helps solve a common problem, especially in large houses: weak signal in certain areas, caused by thick walls that hinder Wi-Fi propagation or by the great distance from the main router. It is possible to place one Deco X10 in the living room and another in the bedroom, for example, to ensure signal quality in the most necessary locations.

The TP-Link Deco X10 is positioned as an ideal entry-level router for those who want to experience Wi-Fi 6 and Mesh technologies, with its cost being a major advantage. Furthermore, the inclusion of Gigabit ports allows demanding equipment to be connected via cable at secondary points without performance loss. However, because it is a lower-cost model, limitations are expected: under extremely intense use, it may decrease the final network speed, even on high-speed internet plans. Additionally, customization options are quite basic, making it suitable for those who only seek a stable signal throughout the house, without requiring advanced configurations.

Ferrari launches 12Cilindri Manuale with electronic system that simulates a manual gearbox

Following the launch of the Luce model, Ferrari demonstrated that it maintains its sporting essence by presenting the 12Cilindri Manuale. This new version of the GT V12, originating from Maranello, incorporates a transmission with manual actuation, although without real mechanical connections.

Operation of the Manuale By-Wire System

The system, named Manuale By-Wire, which combines English and Italian terms and can be translated as 'manual by wire,' operates using an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox, known for its extremely fast shifts. However, it requires the driver to perform the gear changes, similar to a conventional vehicle.

This system includes a clutch pedal and a shifter, but omits mechanical components such as forks, boots, and rods. The actuation mimics a traditional manual car: the driver must press the clutch (simulated) while the lever selects the gear positions, which were previously managed by butterfly valves.

Technical Specifications and Performance

Ferrari specifies that the mechanical unit remains the same, featuring the 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V12 engine. This engine generates 830 horsepower and 69 kgfm of torque, coupled to the eight-speed F1 gearbox and rear-wheel drive system. The brand claims that the vehicle reaches 100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds.

However, the precision and speed of the shifts depend on the driver's skill, comparing to the excellence of the F1 gearbox. For those who do not wish to shift manually, the car offers an automatic driving mode, eliminating risks of incorrect operation.

Context of Electronic Transmissions

Although the system is not an authentic manual transmission, the use of electronic actuation is not new. Automatic gearboxes have abandoned mechanical connections some time ago. Continuously Variable Transmissions (CVTs) use manual position programming to replicate gear ratios, a method seen in models like the Fiat Strada, Pulse, and Fastback.

Conventional automatic gearboxes with torque converters are also common and are migrating to electronic actuation. Recent examples include the Jeep line, with the Commander, which uses electronically actuated transmission. Other manufacturers such as Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Renault, and Ram have also implemented this solution for quite some time.
