Brazil is celebrating its first National Data Protection Day this Friday (the 17th). This date was established by Law No. 15.254, which was approved in November 2025. The purpose of establishing this date is to promote a culture of personal data protection in the country and to pay tribute to Professor Danilo Doneda, one of the developers of the General Data Protection Law (LGPD).
Regulatory Agenda Update
To mark this occasion, the National Data Protection Agency (ANPD) has announced two events next week in Brasília, in addition to updating the Regulatory Agenda page on its website.
According to ANPD, the Regulatory Agenda page has been revamped to ensure continuous monitoring of the Agency's activities and to increase the transparency of regulatory processes. In addition to already published semi-annual reports, the portal now provides detailed information on the progress of each planned action. Among the new features are the main milestones of regulatory projects, data on public consultations, and access to key published documents on each topic.
North American Network to Discuss AI and Child Protection
As part of the celebration, ANPD will hold the 2nd North American Data Protection Network meeting next Wednesday (the 21st). This gathering will bring together representatives from Portuguese-speaking countries to discuss topics related to artificial intelligence (AI), data governance, and the protection of children and adolescents in the digital environment. The meetings will take place from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM and will be limited to members of the Permanent Forum of the North American Data Protection Network (RLPD), which is currently led by ANPD.
Representatives from data protection authorities in Brazil, Portugal, Angola, Cabo Verde, São Tomé and Príncipe, and Macau, a Special Administrative Region of China, will participate. Topics scheduled include the ANPD Artificial Intelligence Sandbox, the protection of children and adolescents in the digital environment (including the Digital ECA in Brazil and a similar bill under consideration in Portugal), and video surveillance regimes in public places. The day's activities will conclude with the General Assembly of the North American Data Protection Network.
International Meeting to Be Broadcast Online
On Thursday (the 22nd), the Agency will organize the 2nd International Data Protection Meeting. The event will take place in the Tancredo Neves Auditorium, located at the Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP) on Praça dos Ministros in Brasília. The event will run from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Although registration for in-person attendance is closed, the program will be broadcast live via the official ANPD channel on YouTube.
The meeting will feature roundtables dedicated to topics such as the use of biometrics and oversight challenges in data protection. The program also includes a panel on Brazilian and Ibero-American supervisory bodies, with confirmed participation from NIC.br representatives and international authorities.
