The new Chery Fulwin A9 sedan is causing significant buzz in China due to its promise of 99 km/l fuel efficiency, combined with a competitive price and technological advancements. This mid-sized model was unveiled on July 9th.
Pre-Sale Success in China
In just 72 hours, the Fulwin A9 accumulated 18,173 confirmed orders, according to the automaker's executive vice president, Li Xueyong, on July 13th. The vehicle is available in the local market in fully electric and hybrid versions with an extended range, starting at approximately R$ 87 thousand (equivalent to 115,900 yuan) in direct conversion.
Version Details and Efficiency
The most impactful highlight lies in the hybrid variant. According to the manufacturer, configurations equipped with an extended range—which uses an internal combustion engine as a generator for battery recharging—achieve a combined consumption of 99 km/l, a factor contributing to the excitement surrounding the launch. Additionally, the Fulwin A9 has purely electric options and can be found in its most expensive configuration for about R$ 102 thousand (135,900 yuan).
Design and Technical Performance
Aesthetically, Chery offered seven body colors, including names like Begonia Red and Mountain Smoke Purple, and implemented flush door handles to improve the side profile and reduce aerodynamic drag. This attention to efficiency is reflected in a drag coefficient of 0.223 Cd, a low value for the category, supported by a body length of 4.84 meters and a wheelbase of 2.90 meters.
Electrical and Technological Specifications
In the electric versions, the sedan features a 242 hp rear motor, powered by a 70.11 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, and has a range of up to 655 km on the Chinese CLTC cycle. The extended range variants emphasize economy, showing the 99 km/l combined consumption and accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds, blending efficiency and performance.
Safety and Driving Features
The embedded technology is also a differentiator. The top version includes the Falcon driving assistance package, which integrates 27 sensors, such as a high-resolution LiDAR, three millimeter-wave radars, 11 cameras, and 12 ultrasonic sensors. Internally, the vehicle features a 15.6-inch multimedia center with 2.5K resolution and a sound system composed of 23 speakers. To reassure consumers regarding safety, Chery guarantees that it will replace any unit damaged by thermal runaway of the battery.
Future Prospects
Although commercial success in China has not yet been confirmed in Brazil, Chery has not announced plans to introduce the Fulwin A9 in the country. However, the combination of the announced 99 km/l consumption, the technological package, and the pricing position indicates the direction the brand plans to take to electrify its global lineup.
