Former United States President Joe Biden is preparing to publish a memoir that will cover various topics, including the reasons for his decision to run for re-election to the White House and the factors that led him to step down from office.
Details of the book 'Promise Me, America'
The work, titled 'Promise Me, America,' will be released in November following the North American midterm elections. Biden explained in a video posted on Thursday on social media that after leaving the presidency, many people asked him what he had been doing. He stated that he spent a lot of time with his family and underwent treatment for prostate cancer, which was diagnosed in May 2025, just four months after the end of his presidential term.
Furthermore, Biden announced that he wrote the book during his time in the White House. He clarified that 'Promise Me, America' sheds light on the issues facing the nation, as well as the decisions he made and why he made them. The book is dedicated to explaining his choice to participate in re-election and his subsequent decision to step down.
Release Date and Context
The book is scheduled for release on November 17, two weeks after the North American midterm elections. The title references Biden's 2017 autobiography 'Promete-me, Pai,' which dealt with the death of his son Beau Biden. The publisher Little, Brown and Co. announced that the book tells the story of 'the four innovative years of President Joe Biden in the White House: his campaign, his presidency, his decision to run again—and to step down.'
Little, Brown and Co. noted that in his candid and revealing memoirs, Joe Biden reflects on his presidency, addressing the challenges, triumphs, sorrows, and achievements that marked his rule during one of the most turbulent periods in American history.
Presidency Period and Crises
Biden's presidency began with the January 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol by supporters of the losing opponent Donald Trump, who attempted to obstruct the certification of the Democrat's victory amid false claims by the Republican candidate. After this, Biden had to deal, among other things, with the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic and the start of the war in Ukraine in February 2022.
As is known, Joe Biden withdrew from the White House race in July 2024, three months before the election, due to growing pressure within his party and doubts about his ability to remain in office at the age of 81. The then-president passed the nomination to his vice president Kamala Harris, who was elected on November 3, 2024, after a campaign lasting only 100 days.
