Fiat is studying the creation of bolder variants for its electric microcar, the Topolino, incorporating the visual identity of Abarth. This initiative aims to capture the attention of a younger audience that, according to the automaker's own management, is not yet attracted to the current model.
Olivier François, global president of Fiat, described this project as a 'dream' and confirmed that work to make it a reality has already begun, expressing optimism about its absolute potential for success. Gaetano Thorel, Fiat's head in Europe, explained to Autocar that the goal is to generate an Abarth atmosphere in the Topolino, as the company seeks to increase sales among young people.
In Italy, the Topolino is the best-selling quadricycle and led the European segment market in 2025, achieving about 20% market share. However, the brand recognizes that it has failed to win over 16 and 17-year-old drivers, an age group in the country that can drive the model with a license equivalent to mopeds starting from age 14.

We feel we must be decisive. 60% is the target in the Masterplan.'
According to Mutilial, this target exists only on paper and lacks the political will to ensure its achievement.
MISA, the main union in the retail automotive industry representing 79,000 members, supports NAACAM's view. The union noted that creating sustainable decent jobs is central to the Masterplan.
MISA's Chief Operating Officer, Martle Kater, stated in a declaration that 'it is not unreasonable to demand that OEMs who manufacture locally and receive substantial government incentives commit to creating real manufacturing jobs.'
